Which one of these was your favourite console by Sega and why?

I went with the Megadrive, my favourite console, mainly because of its huge library of games.

The Saturn is the runner-up for me.

I went for the Dreamcast. Awesome design, Awesome games.. Totally under rated. Sega could have done so much more with it but sadly Sony were to powerful.

Gotta be the Mega drive for me.
I just loved this console.There were ton's of great games for it that would keep my busy all day.

The Megadrive was a close second.. Had some awesome games i must admit.

The Japanese Saturn is my all-time favorite console. (Dreamcast and Genesis are great too)

To me, the Japanese Saturn library is the pinnacle of 2D gaming with amazing games across all genres. esp. shmups and fighting games

That's an area I need to look at then. That's the beauty of retro gaming. Learning something new each day.

Mega Drive.  It's the first system I truely got into.

I actually got them today!!!!! They took less than a week to get here!!!! 

This is what I bought:

Space Invaders - Because I love all the versions I have ever played of this, although I know nothing about the Saturn one so I hope I am not disappointed by it!

Hat Trick Hero S - This is one of my favourite arcade games ever so I was over the moon when I found out there was a Saturn port of it as I thought it never came out on a home system!

Real Bout Fatal Fury Special - I always liked the Neo Geo versions of Fatal Fury and even the Megadrive port too so thought I would get this too because it was really damn cheap!

Dead Or Alive - I clearly remember salivating over this game when I saw it previewed in the Official Sega Saturn Magazine over here. It was a really nice price too so decieded to pick it up.

All of those for less than £25 with the postage!

Has to be Megadrive, after the late start of the Master System after the NES, Sega needed something to counter Nintendo, and it came back with the coolest machine on the block which every self respecting gamer owned!

my fairly obviously answer was the DC, I truly love and adore the MD and Saturn still even today but the Dreamcast was the first console I bought on release and I poured my heart and soul into my collection and the DC absolutely never disappointed. I'd have to say that, as far as consoles go, its always going to represent the absolute pinnacle of what a console should be, one word; fun

Not surprised to see the Megadrive ahead but thought it might be a bit closer.

probably because more people on here were young when they got their MD... I was a bit late and as I got my DC from Launch and pored a lot of time and effort into it its definitely my fave lol

The Megadrive/Genesis for me. Two words: Blast Processing.

The funny thing is that there is actually a very small amount of truth to it! The term is refering to the fact the Mega Drive / Genesis does everything through it's main processor on a fast 16-bit bus, the only hardware assistance is for scrolling and sound. Simple terms:

Mega Drive = FAST

SNES = SLOW

It was a tough decision between the Mega Drive and the Dreamcast but in the end I chose the Dreamcast.

Dreamcast is the best for me, mainly down to the complete package that it offers. Small and powerful, perfect controllers, games catalogue, online gaming. It pretty much was a complete console package.

yeah it was the nuts, and yesterday I just realised what a dumass I was being with my current setup

Ok so I moved my DC to the Spare room where my uber powerful pc is, I did this so I could easily capture my video, and the pc is more efficient and more powerful than my laptop so it made sense

so at the moment I've only been playing my dc (and all the other consoles I wanna capture from) via RCA which connects to a USB dongle and then I watch it on the PC via the capture software.

I realised yesterday that my pc connects to the awesome Hanns-g monitor that I have via DVI and that the VGA port is being completely neglected and so I have now set it up so I can hot swap between the RCA to pc and the VGA to monitor whenever I need to (for when games don't support 60hz or when I wanna capture), I was playing Gunlord in all its wonderful VGA Glory last night. and as the monitor has built in speakers I just plug it in that... so yeah, it was awesome.

I also hooked it back up to the broadband so I could play PSO online again as the hub is right next to my monitor, it all makes PERFECT sense now!!

lol, it definitely does, its picture was SOOO much cleaner and sharper than the dismal grey POS that was PS2... I just need a new VGA box so I can swap from VGA on the monitor to RCA via the capture device without actually having to unplug anything... I bought one yesterday, CAN'T WAIT!!

Great! I have to admit the Dreamcast has one strong controller. Well I do not play the DC as much as I should so one tends to forget. With the rumble pack and memory pack that thing is heavy and could be used as a weapon.

Two Dreamcast controllers that way and nobody would mess with you.

Wow thought the Dreamcast controllers were big! The makers must have been trying to cover
every hand size. DC controller too small try these. Lol.

I have two light guns the Interact Starfire and the DC mini gun. Another case of covering every hand size.

After seeing yours I really want one, I prefer them to the regular DC controllers

I was torn between Master System and Megadrive for this vote. Master System has a special place because it was the first console I'd bought for many years when I got it. But the Megadrive had a real WOW! factor when I bought it (despite the fact it had no bundled game and I had to buy Sonic for extra cash back then) and plugged it in at home. The Megadrive just clinched it.
I was a little late getting the Dreamcast, bought it second hand and the system was already dead in the water when I got it. Great console though and another leap forward even from the Saturn.

Dreamcast for me. Playing Street Fighter 3 3rd Strike with a superb controller for 1vs1 fighting. Absolutely brilliant.

The Megadrive was easily the best Sega console. Awesome games from Sega and masses of excellent third party support. Stunning RGB output and nice and comfortable controllers.
After this each console became progressively worse, ending with the ambitious but poorly designed Dreamcast.

Dreamcast certainly wasn't poorly designed... it was poorly received by the public who had a bad taste in their mouths but nothing about the DC was poor in terms of its design or execution, Dreamcast was years ahead of its time and paved the way for modern consoles, it was only shafted because EA didn't support it and Sony sold millions of ps2's because everyone wanted a cheap dvd player at the time. Definitely DC was the best Sega console for me with Saturn second

There is one element of the Dreamcast design that is very poor, the ability to easily pirate games and play them. Sega should have used far better copy protection on the console as piracy was one of the big causes of its downfall.

I wouldn't have said Piracy was one of the biggest causes of its downfall but yeah it was fairly easy to run burnt discs on it. But that was only the first revision of the console, the later model/revisions prevented it from being possible without some serious fucking around lol

I think the Dreamcast design and execution was fantastic, but the timing may have been the problem.
The competition around at that time was massive but the machine itself by many accounts was underestimated

I don't think piracy was the killer of the DC, in some ways it can help funnily enough.
Playstation piracy for both the first and second consoles was rife

Sega have stated themselves several times that it was a big problem. Hardware sales for the Dreamcast were excellent, software sales were not - one of the reasons EA didn't want in.

You had to mod a PlayStation to play pirates but with the DC it was nothing more than using another CD and swapping it.

Yeah I suppose your right I loved the DC just wish it would of had more success

Sega would as do others mate.. i doubt piracy caused any issues.. Hell you can easily do that with all consoles..

It did mate, they have been quoted saying it.

The PS1 had those black CD's making them impossible to replicate so you had to pay to mod your PS1 if you wanted to play pirates and that would invalidate the warranty so put lots of people off.

The Saturn had copy protection built into the BIOS of the system that also needed a modchip or expensive (back then) cartridge to bypass it.

The N64 used carts and the Game Cube after used a proprietary system so couldn't be replicated easily.

Sega tried to save money by not adding proper protection against piracy and it bit them on the arse.

I see what your saying pal but all consoles not just you have named can be hacked at all varying degrees..

Take the DS, the most popular Handheld of all time, easiest thing to hack.

When the DC first came out I doubt piracy was a big deal I mean most people weren't that clued up on these things until later when the internet became more widely used and the proliferation of information like this grew, I didn't know you could burn copies of games on the DC until about 2004!! Still it definitely hurt there sales and seeing as how badly the DC did by comparison to the PS2 every little will have helped, they should've taken more precautions

It has to be the MD for me, it got everything right. Apart from the last battle 

I genuinely find it impossible to separate Saturn and Dreamcast - it's like asking which of my kids is my favourite.

Favourite Sony or Nintendo console? Easy - can't do it for Sega though

yeah I'm finding this to be a tougher question now, I think its still the Dreamcast because there's a lot of sentimental attachment for me, I was with the DC from the start to finish and still with it now, but I know the game library inside and out and it doesn't really have anything new for me, whereas with the Saturn I thought I had seen all it had to offer but the game library of the Saturn is awesome!!

The Dreamcast was very much about more fun/jump in and play etc and a lot of them were very colourful, vibrant and unique, such as Samba De Amigo etc, but the Saturn has a much more even spread of deep action games of all types of genres, a genre the Dreamcast didn't really support to well. I mean the DC has Headhunter, Resident Evils, couple of others that are good but most of them are either arcade style ala Powerstone or Dynamite Cop, or they are simple shovelwear shite such as Fighting Force, Urban Chaos, shoddy ports of PS1 games that just look cack on the DC

at least with the Saturn I can play a ridiculously wide variety of J-RPGs, 2d fighters, but there is a very healthy smuttering of awesome action, like AMOK, Solar Eclipse, Darklight Conflict, Quake, Hexen, Duke Nukem 3D, Crusader No Remorse, Loaded, Panzer Dragoon, Dragonforce, Dark Saviour, Deep Fear, Enemy Zero etc etc, the list goes on! Gungriffon, Thunderforce, Die Hard Trilogy, Alien Trilogy...

so I'm definitely very torn at the moment between Saturn and DC for favourite Sega console lol
