Messages - Atarius Maximus

I played it for a while tonight, it's quite good.  The game doesn't record your high score (what room you got to) when you die so I'm not entirely sure how far I got, but I think I was able to make it to room 20 or so.  Fun game.

Homebrew Chat / Re: New Atari 7800 Homebrew - Adventure

I posted the map demo today at AtariAge that accurately replicates the original map for Zelda.  Here's the link:  http://atariage.com/forums/topic/226443-adventure-demo-7800basic/page-3

I won't be releasing the source for it to respect Ninendo's copyrights and I won't be making an actual game with Zelda graphics, its just a map demo of the Zelda world.  I thought I'd share here in case anyone is interested in taking a look.

I remember just about all the games mentioned.  I got my first 486 PC in college in 1991 just a year before Wolfenstein 3D was released.  There were some great FPS games released just prior to that, my favorites were Blake Stone and Catacomb Abyss.  You can download them here:  http://www.dosgames.com/g_3d.php.  I attached screenshots of those two.

I wasted days of my life playing Wolfenstein 3D, and then multiplayer Duke Nukem 3D in college when we still had to use a null modem cable.  No one had a PC with a network card back then.  :21:

Quote from: "TrekMD"I guess everyone still thinks this is a Zelda port for the 7800 despite Atarius saying it won't be.

It's my fault I guess for posting the very first demo and making it look like Zelda.  :40:

Quote from: "Greyfox"Its always delightful to have new members with great talents and expertise joining RVG , love your handle Steve :)

Have a good one.

Thank you, and thanks to the couple of posts after yours. :)  For anyone interested, the first of the month has passed so my personal website with all my apps, homebrews and hacks is back up.  http://www.bjars.com.

Quote from: "TrekMD"Yes, the forum software is different.  No worries, practice makes perfect.  :)

Yeah, I'll do better, I simply wasn't paying attention to what I was doing.  I really like this Homebrew forum and have barely even begun to dive in.  I like that there are so many retro consoles represented in a single forum.  I'm a huge C64 fan too, I'll be reading those homebrew posts with great interest.  I posted several of my old C64 programs on my website (bjars.com, which I know is down now due to excessive traffic) and always wanted to make a game on that platform too. I wish there was a basic/assembly compiler similar to bB/7800basic for that platform as well.

Quote from: "TrekMD"Hey Atarius, thanks for posting that.  I've tried the 7800 game and it looks great!

You're too kind, loon. You've made some amazing stuff too, and still get a kick out of drunken pooper. ;)

That I did.  Still getting used to the forum differences from AA.  For some reason I want to click on the quote button at the bottom of a post, and on this forum it's at the top.  I'll pay more attention in the future.

Ha.  The metric system still confounds me when I travel internationally. :40:

Thanks TrekMD.  Over at AA on the 7800 programming forum you can also download a soccer / international football version of the game I made for gambler172, as well as a few others from him.  Maybe I should have called this American football challenge?  Why did we have to be the only country in the world that uses 'football' for an entirely different game? :)

Quote from: "TrekMD"That looks pretty good! Atarius is here now too, so maybe he'll comment about the game.  :)  It's a complete game and is kind of fun, but I've been focusing on my latest 7800 adventure game project lately.  I recently discovered 7800basic and made a 7800 version of this game too.  You can see that version here: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/226181-touchdown-challenge-my-first-7800basic-game/.

I actually keep meaning to post a thread for the 7800 version but keep forgetting!  :79:

Ha, no worries Laird.  I appreciate you posting about my games at RVG.

Quote from: "TrekMD"It's early in development, so we'll have to wait to see where it goes.

This all for fun and I have no aspirations to sell it or make a profit in any way.  I am planning on using Zelda graphics and the map for pure nostalgia purposes, but I have no intention of replicating the original game.  As I'm using a new development environment for the 7800 and working with the author, this could be a very long process.  If you're a Kevin Costner fan, you'll understand this quote.  "For love of the game". :)

Quote from: "TrekMD"Ah, no worries.  I'll wait until July 1st to check it.  Better check it that same day too if you're having issues with traffic!  :(

I'd love to spend the $$$ and get on a better web host but I'm trying to keep my hobby cost-free. :)

Quote from: "TrekMD"Hey Steve, welcome to RVG!  Glad you decided to join the forum.  I tried checking out your site but I'm getting an error message that says that traffic has been exceeded.

Crap.  Nothing I can do about the traffic exceeded notice other than give my web host more money.  I only get 1GB a month and I've been on a free web host since I started the site in 2006.  It won't be available again until July 1st, unless you want to check out the wayback machine. :(  I haven't had an issue with traffic until 2014, I guess I'm simply getting too much traffic now.
