That's awesome. Great work guys.
Excellent!Â
Laird I sent you a download link to the blackout soundtrack on your personal email. It should work I think...
Free Doom eh? I can only assume its going to be free
RVG has the first look at this video btw... Not on any other forums yet.

Hey, is this soundtrack going to be made available?Â
so I understand, this is a homebrew version of Doom that we will be able to get for free right?looks pretty good, is it much different from the original Doom? Don't know about you guys but I think I preferred versions with sound... but that's just me
I've never heard of them or this project so I apologise if I seem slow on this lol

What you mean versions with sound? The Jag version has sound!Â
If you mean music then no I don't agree and I am glad Carmack removed it from the Jag version as it doesn't really suit this type of game and without it there is far more atmosphere!!!
WOW! Awesome project!!
So... is this based on the open source Freedoom? If so, can it use any of the user created wad files?
Very cool guys, looks awesome!
yeah I meant music... the saturn version did have MUSIC tracks as such if I remember correctly but it had a lot of ambient sounds and haunting tunes playing very low in the background, the jag one is just silent except for the enemies and the characters noises
I know lots of people prefer it without but I guess I was just used to the Saturn version

The Saturn version is so terrible in every way. The Jaguar version is so much better.
Yep it can run home brew wads from what Jeff has showed me... BUT Jaguar cant really handle a lot of the complicated or large levels sadly, it slows a bit. And no- because of the way they built Doom for Jaguar, we cant add music in.
This has all new textures (including a lot that I have made myself), enemies, animations, sounds, and levels- so its completely different in that respect. Handles the same, moves the same, we may add a few extra things though.

I am assuming this will only run from a Skunk? (which I don't ownÂ
)
Im sure if I sweet talk the team- we can get it in multiple file formats
yeah well I'm not saying the Saturn version is better or worse technically than the jaguar version, just saying that, because I had the Saturn version first and got used to that version, I tend to prefer Doom with more music/atmospheric sound... I will still get this and enjoy it if I can, looks good
Current the way the game functions is that it has the wad file itself (which is flashed to a skunkboard or could be on a cartridge already) and the code portion is uploaded to ram via skunk or bjl. Only way to run the game would be to have a skunk or a physical copy of the game which is possible.
Ill be releasing the rom file for free so you can burn a cart if you'd like for yourself. WE probably wont offer physical copies for sale as im sure we'd end up stepping on someones toes somewhere...
Anyhow the network code has been tweaked but not thouroughly tested. I cant say it will fix the problems and never have network errors but the tweaks that were made should definately help stray from them. We've also alloted for some "slop" if you will, for latency (internet based games) which we are going to be testing out more soon. This isnt a final feature at all but is being explored so you can give your friends a run for their money in console deathmatch.
Along with the multiplayer options being tested and explored we've added pro controller support for the left and right bumpers to allow for strafing. This should make the game a little more fun to run around and control, however this comes at a small disadvantage of re-mapping the weapons layout on the keypad. This also gains an extra FULL time weapon as well (ability to switch between chainsaw and fist, instead of just chainsaw after picking up)
We are now taking submissions for levels if you would like to contribute to the game. To participate, please download doombuilder from http://www.doombuilder.com (http://www.doombuilder.com) and use the shareware WAD file from doom to create your maps. Please note that more complex and larger than original maps will cause the game to slow down. Eespecially areas with high sector counts and alot of Lindefs. Large open areas are not friendly sometimes either.
A good rule of thumb is to use the original doom levels as a guide to see what can and cannot be done. more "BARE" levels does result in faster gameplay and better framerate.
Anyhow if you have any questions about level submission, send us an email on the site and we'll get back to ya.
An interesting development. You say "we" so who's been working on this with you, rush?
we = me and shawn.
Awesome work Jeff! I am glad all your playing with that network code ages ago has come to something!
I would kill for this on a cartridge!!!
Great work indeed guys. Have to say its a pleasure to have you both onboard here sharing this stuff. So huge thanks.
No problem! Glad to have people who are interested in hearing about it
Yeah we arent going to do a physical release. We are giving it away for free due to the main fact that its just a conversion, with only 25% of our own art. We arent able to make anything off of it, which makes the time and effort building them a waste of time sadly. But when we release it Im sure many will be able to burn it to a cd, skunk, bjl.

Thanks! I suppose in addition to that it was also Jag_Slave having said the folllowing that made the project sound as though it involved numerous people,

LOL I just didnt wanna sound like a loverboy by saying "Sweet talking Jeff"... Thats his wife's job

We may as well be, just without all the benefits. Buahaha
look forward to seeing this then, just a little unsure how I would get it working on my Jaguar, will it work if I burn a cd of it or does it have to be this "Skunk" thing or a cart? I can't remember what the Skunk thing doesÂ

The Skunkboard is a flash cartridge that you can load ROMs onto via USB.
cool, are they easy to get hold of? mind you if this game will work on a disc I'll just go that route

They come up on ebay once in a while but that's about it I think.
They were being sold at the Goat store but they sold out and as far as I know there are no plans to make any more.
I heard dan say he has a few left still... might check with him to be sure. i think they're the v3 ghost (white) ones.
Please i would love one also?
sorry to sound thick but who's Dan?
Ah no prob, check out goatstore. dan runs it.
http://www.goatstore.com (http://www.goatstore.com)
you'll have to shoot him off an email as i dont think he has them listed on the site
is he a user here? OR do you just mean contact him via his site?
Yeah, you'll have to get ahold of him on his site. I think he said he had about 4-5 left or so but i could be wrong.. i think he mentioned this about a week or so ago on JS2 forums.

Any joy on these fella?
I would love one too but I just can't afford it really.
If you like guys I will contact Dan and see if I can secure several for us as it will work out cheaper!
yeah doubt I would have the money for this either
How much are they?
This is what I am going to find out as it would work out cheaper if we bought a few at once.
Ok. Cheers fella.
Any idea on a ballpark figure.

If I remember right back when he had these listed on his website they were $130.00
Not sure what that works out to in pounds.
Can we not make them. Is there a guide to do our own?

About £80 but hoping to get a discount as the ones left are not boxed or anything and want a few together.

No chance, they are pretty complicated and you need BIOS chips and stuff
I have an EEPROM blower and stuff. Can't be that hard bud. After all it's just a circuit board.

No its not. Its a 6MB USB flash drive with custom bios and software in ROM. The docs for it have been released but would be far from easy to make your own.
