OK, here is a game that needs no introduction, Missile Command!  This game was introduced in 1980 and it is one of the top arcade games of the era.  The video has quite a few versions to go through but, most notably, the Jaguar version is not included!  I was surprised!  Anyhow, here is the video so, let's compare Missile Command!

And here is the Atari Jaguar version in "Original" mode...

Epic game!  :111:

Sorry to be so definitive but the 5200 is the BEST version. Authentic arcade sound fx and trak-ball control, and super freaking hard!!! There is not a better version of this game, period, unless you have the arcade cabinet I guess.

The Lynx version is pretty sweet too, but it's an ultimate version with power-ups. It has it's own special awesomeness. The 2600 version beats most of the competitors as well, with downright excellent controls with a joystick.

I liked the look of some of these though that I've never played, like the Amiga and actually the Game Gear version looked pretty darn good.

You would have to be pretty desperate for some Missile Command on some of those other versions though, MSX, Spectrum, Genesis/MD.

The 2600 version can be played using the trackball controller too, which gives it an edge as well.  True that it is in joystick mode, but it is still nice to be able to do so.  :)

I am a huge Missile Command fan, it's easily one of my favourite games ever.

It's really strange that he missed out the Jaguar version, because it's easily the best one. You have a faultless version of the arcade game with extra features and the simply incredible VR mode too, it's the best game on the Jag for me.

The Lynx version is also amazing, but for a different reason as it offers a superb update on the game. The power-ups really add a new element to the game and it's right up there with the best titles on the machine.

The best original version for me is on the Atari 8-bit series, not only is it trackball compatible but plays incredibly closely to the original arcade game too. The 2600 version is also very good, even if it does take a few liberties with the gameplay (one cannon, no UFOs etc.)

Some of the clones are pretty interesting. I loved the speech on the MSX version, but not the in game so much. The Spectrum version really stood out for me, I have never seen it before and looks really good indeed. Same cam be said for that excellent BBC Micro iteration.

I commented on the video about the Jaguar version.  Apparently, he couldn't get it to work and that's why it was not included.

It works fine in Virtual Jaguar!

TrekMD

Well, what can I say?  That was his reply.  Whatever problem he had didn't let him include it.

One fascinating fact is that the only mainstream Atari machine that never got a version of Missile Command is the 7800, I always found this pretty strange. It came out on the 2600, 400/800/XL/XE, Lynx, ST, Jaguar, 5200 and it was also built into the XEGS.

Yes, that is indeed a curious thing.  I wonder why Atari never ported the game to the 7800.  Did they think having the ability to play the 2600 version on the console was good enough?

No idea, I reckon a 7800 version of the game would have been really good. I also just realised that he missed the Atari ST version out of this video! So here it is:

Yes a 7800 version would have been cool.  Not only is it surprising that Atari never released a version of the game but also that no homebrewer has made clone of it for the system!

Ah Missile Command. I've had a love/hate relationship with this one. Of course many versions played with a joypad just don't feel right. My favorite version is definitely VR in the Jag version, I've wondered how this would play with a trackball instead of the joypad (or VR headset of course).

The ST version looks a bit bland to be honest. I would think that the ST could have pulled off something better. And while MC original is not my favorite Atari game, a 7800 version would have been a better pack in than Pole Position II (assuming it would have done what other 7800 conversions did with offering 2p play)

The great thing about the ST version is that you can use a mouse, works really well for this game!

I have good memories about MC on the 2600, I think it was the first game I played on that system when I was a kid.

The Playstation version looks fun and the Jaguar one is great, specially the upgraded versions, one of the best games on the console and very underrated IMO.
Don't be surprised, my broken English is legendary!

I wonder, could Oculus Rift be hacked to work with MCVR or vice versa?
