So, let's take a look at a totally different "sport" this time - Race Car Games! Here are some titles for the Atari 2600!

We could be there forever with this oneÂ

You know, Night Driver on the 2600 is a game that I'm surprised no one has hacked to improve upon. I'm sure the car the player drives could be rendered better, sound, and some of the game "mechanics" could be improved to make a it more enjoyable. I know the original arcade was a simple game, but no reason not to add some improvements to this classic.Â
Any hack might end up looking like Enduro or Turbo. Which would not be a bad thing.
Ah, Turbo for the 2600! How could I have left it out!

I was thinking something like Pole Position for game mechanics but still keeping things close to the original. The car, for sure, needs improvement!
That is a really nice looking game!!!!! I was thinking of the Intellivision and Coleco ports.
Hard to add color without changing the name. Daylight Driver just does not seem to work

No, no, no. You're misunderstanding me. Game mechanics of Pole Position. How the car moves and the road moves. Not coloring the game like that! LOLÂ
Ok, I see. They could lighten it a bit like the night scenery in Turbo.

Is there a backstory to Speedster II?

Yes it was made for one of those kids ride-ons that you found in supermarkets like Wallmart.
Cool! It all makes sense! Your back at the store not quit playing kid and leave or drop more money
I'm not familiar with Slam Racer. When was that released?
Quote from: "TrekMD"I'm not familiar with Slam Racer. When was that released?
Laird can probably verify this but I don't think it ever was released. I have a demo disc from the guys who made Battlesphere that has Slam Racer on it. There's no sound and it's very difficult with the pillars that keep popping up in the middle of the road but it's fun for a few minutes.

Cool. Well you know much more about it than I do!Â
It was shown to Atari as a demo and it was what got Sinister Developments their NDA and dev system from what Gordon said a few years back. It was never finished though, shame because it's my kind of game.
it came with Battlesphere but there is a CD image of it too that you can just download and burn yourself.
Now we know the whole storyÂ

Enduro for VCS is the king of all racers for me. Too many great memories with that one.
Unfortunately, Intellivision is lacking on racers. Too bad no one has done an Enduro version for the good old INTV to date.
My favorite racer these days is probably any of the Ridge Racer series on original PSX console. Those games are pure racing bliss.
Here are some racing games for the ColecoVision!

I remember spending a lot of time playing Enduro on my 2600 to get the patch! I still have the patch to this day!Â
Dukes of Hazzard on CV is pretty rudimentary to say the least. It definitely would have benefited from voice. I can hear Roscoe P. Coaltrain going, 'Coo, Coo, Coo,' as his police cruiser appears in your rear view mirror.
Has anyone played any of the Dukes of Hazzard games on PSX or PS2?
The only Dukes of Hazzard game I've ever played is the 2600 version which is nothing like the ColecoVision version.Â
Quote from: "sloan"Has anyone played any of the Dukes of Hazzard games on PSX or PS2?
I have The Dukes of Hazzard: Racing for Home on the Playstation.Â
I would not recommend it unless a you are a Dukes fan. Even then do not expect much. Trying to shoot your bow from the General Lee can be tough. The driving can be even tougher.
This wonderful Lynx game needs to be here:

Chase HQ and the sequel Special Criminal Investigation are excellent.

Turbo Esprit
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzJtGRIu ... e=youtu.be (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzJtGRIuIlg&feature=youtu.be)
I love Lotus Esprit, without doubt one of my favourite Spectrum games. I used to spend hours playing this back in the day. I never played it properly though as I preferred to be bad and shoot other cars and run down the pedestrians. My favourite thing to do was to stop at a zebra crossing and then wait for the people to cross and then run them overÂ

Both of those look nice. I take it Chase HQ is the better of the two?Â
I went ahead and added the system name at the top so it is easy to know what system the games are for.Â
Cool videos! I know Victory Run well, but have never played Chase H.Q.
Here are a few more ZX Spectrum classics, starting with the system's first ever racing game Chequered Flag:

Auto Racing, Turbo and Mud Buggies look superb!Â
Mud Buggies looks great. Reminds me of an early Micro Machines game.
Unfortunately, looks aren't everything. Auto Racing and Turbo are not very good despite their nice graphics. Pole Position plays well and has great sound. Mud Buggies I've not played yet. it is a very hard-to-find game but I do have the ROM for it so I can play it on my CC3.Â

I played Vectrex Pole Position at a show last year and loved it, very good conversion for the system.
Hyper Chase looks great though, the speed is insane! It reminds me a bit of Enduro on the 2600 in that respect.
Both games on the Vectrex are fantastic. I was very impressed when I first played Pole Position on the system. Though it can be played using the driving controller (Overdrive) from Fury, it plays best with the joystick. Hyperchase is a different story. The Overdrive does wonders for the game and makes managing the speed of things much better.Â

Micro Machines, as you say, is brilliant on any system.
I don't think it actually shows it in that video but there is an arcade you can visit in Surf City where there is a simple top viewed racing game that you can play on.
Sounds like an interesting bit for Surf City. I bought Video Speedway years ago for my brother-in-law and have not played since the 1990's. Time always softens views, but then I have a soft spot for racing games. Most folks do not appreciate Turbo for the Intellivision, but once you learn to control the car, the game can be quite fun.
Here are 3 of my favourites from the Nintendo Game Boy:
Game Boy Longplay [013] F-1 Race (//http)
Taito Chase H.Q. (GAME BOY - TAITO - 1991 - JAPANESE) (//http)
V Rally Game Boy (//http)
I have never owned an original GameBoy and can't say why it trounced all the other handhelds. Looking at these videos, leads me to believe it was really good gameplay.
And to complete the handheld line-up here are 3 of the Sega Game Gear's best racing games:
