I was lucky to have experienced Pinball games. Nice to see the 2600 was able to adapt and improve with each release.

I've always enjoyed video pinball games. On the 2600, Midnight Magic is a favorite of mine but Bumper Dash is no slouch. The evolution of these games over the years is pretty cool, though, with tables becoming far more sophisticated and realistic. That's what I'm hoping to portray here. So, let's move on to another system.Â

Never played the Intellivision Pinball. Looks really good

Wow, that's a lot of games on the ZX and quite varied in quality and type as well. Really like Pinball Power and Time Scanner. I find it curious, though, that the table itself on Time Scanner has so few colors even though there are other color being displayed on the screen for the score, etc.Â

Time Scanner is actually a conversion of a Sega arcade game! I really like the ST version too.
The lack of colour is down to the legendary Spectrum colour (attribute) clash. I explained it better in the Spectrum thread but basically the hardware only allows you to display 2 colours in each 8x8 square that makes up the screen, one for ink (pixels) and one for paper (background). So when something coloured moved into a square where there is already 2 colours being used attribute clash occurs and it changes colour.

That is what makes games on the Spectrum that use a lot of colour like Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles, Dan Dare 3, R-Type and Shadow Warriors more impressive as it was a real skill to do colour graphics on the Spectrum without any clashing.
A lot of coders just took the easy way out and did games in monochrome.

Anyway yes, Pinball Action is very good. It has 4 screens total. You have to hit the different colored drop targets to open up the corresponding colored spot, which when entered will transport you to another screen which will have a new theme. Red being a fire theme with a dragon IIRC, and so on. I want to say the cabinet had flipper buttons on the side of the console, but I may be thinking of Baby Pac-Man there. This game may have simply been sold in kit form.

That does sound like a really cool pinball game. Baby Pac-Man is one that I'd love to see properly adapted to something like the 5200 or 7800 by having someone create the pinball table as a video pinball machine. The on-screen Baby Pac-Man has been recreated but not the pinball aspect of it.

Yep, is happening on other Evolution of threads also. Not sure what is causing it. The last time he changed some setting and it fixed it but I guess it was temporary.

Awesome thread. I actually got my first Sega Saturn because of Last Gladiators and the fun I had with it at a friend's house on his machine. Still play it to this day on real hardware and in SSF. Great game!

I love video pinball, they are superb, I love all the Zen pinball titles, which have now migrated to the Ps4, so you can play all the Star Wars Tables in 108p HD , some brilliant stuff, but a bit pricey at €9.99 per table.
I loved all the ones on the Mega-drive, it seemed to get the most original and bizarre video pinball games, making them a must play.
