Something I've been wanting to do for some time was to honor and celebrate a machine that more or less never gets any awareness or exposure so I personally set out to change that and needed something of an inspiration to create a proper magazine which will both let readers see these computers in a different light, read about the great games created for it and hopefully learn something along the way too.
I am of course talking about the classic Atari 8-bit range, the Atari 800-800XL and 130XE platforms, so the magazine will consist mainly of the great reviews from the RVG's The Laird for the Atari 8-bit computers, plus some real diamonds in the ruff type articles never disclosed before and some nice homages and surprises along the way too across about 74 pages or so.

next, a glimpse of the fabulous Atari 8-bit reviews from "The Laird" and the page layouts for the reviews done in the manner they deserve to be seen

Very nice!Â
Looks like it's coming together quite nicely.
Wow, that's great! I've been a big fan of the Atari 8-bits since they first came out in the late '70s. What a great project. Looking forward to reading it!
Thank you!
Great work Darren me old mucka. You want to have that on the HBH site?
Yes, that would be wonderful, but I want to create a page layout and design separate from the homebrew heroes one, with an Atari 8-bit feel and layout, but I can have a chat with you about it. as this is still going , working on some good stuff for a8 , I hope people like it
Where do I make an advanced payment?
Make it a rounder figure of £3, that will give you a little towards server costs etc and is a very small price for what will be a great magazine.
Oh, I want, I want, I want...
busy busy :)
so I hope you enjoy the previews and will be reading it on your tablet devices real soon now.
Grey.

Very cool!Â
Nice, nice!
Loving the look of that.
Ahh thanks fellas, it's a pre-concept at the present, as I've to do some investigative work on this, if its to be released, there is one big thing I want going into this and I'm hoping to get the folks involved down on print for it..and will be doing for the first time in something like this is game reviews on my top 20 best ST games from my past
If you need some help reviewing the text, let me know. I can make myself available.Â
looks great, love the artworkÂ
Ok here is mine on a T-shirt. My daughter did all the work, bless her cotton socks, and also did a slight modification to the image. Hope you don't mind Darren, I know it is all 8-bit but I couldn't resist the 8-bit morphing into 64 bit idea
At least it is subtle.

That looks awesome!Â
Love it fella..
Nice one for sharing.

Okay..with all the odds stacked against me regarding this project from other forums, it was a nearly met with the decision to can the project before it even got started, but my love for this machine was far more stronger than the dish water luke warm remarks and comments of a few mere insignificance rambling people with their ego's stuffed firmly up their back sides :)
anyways..If you love your Atari ST, your gonna want this by your side
Thanks for the comments guys and of course Greyfox for the image. My daughter was running off a few shirts for her campaign for President of the Students Union at her University so it was logical to run this off at the same time. You can also now put a face to the name, Keith :21:
:113:
now for part 2

Whilst I never owned an ST, I know many people did/still do and based on Greyfox's contribution to the 8-bit scene, I firmly believe this will be a tremendous addition to any serious collector.
Nice one pal...
Looking forward to this one.
Great stuff pal....
Quote from: "zapiy"Great stuff pal....
Thanks again but let us not forget it was Greyfox who got the ball rolling and created the transfer in the first place. For that reason, I share all thanks with Darren. Hopefully, one day I will meet some of you at a retro event
I had the privilege of been asked to a podcast interview from those great guys over at www.Gamer.no (//http) as part of their retro gaming podcast section and had a ball chatting with these guys about my Atari past and about the Atari Gamer magazine and just wanted to share here with RVG crowd, although the podcast is an Norwegian podcast my interview is in full english, so without further ado go have a listen to my wacky Irish accent lol..and I make sure to promote RVG to higher grounds (hopefully) also :)
Cool, will have a listen later.Â
Listening now, let them get a work in edgeways will youÂ
nope as I was on a strict time limit..and half the time it sounded like I was boozed up..talking about shit and making all sorts of mistakes..yes I know..I know
Look at what came in the mail today. I did something extra too.

Nice shirt, I wondered what it would look like on a dark background and it's pretty darn good
It does look very good. I tested the colors on the site I did the order before going with black.Â
You all Know I love to show off stuff as and when I complete them and today's treat is one of the preview pages of the Cheats Page I'm working on for the magazine, boy it's tuff testing out these cheats, but very much worth including in the magazine, this section will be about 8 pages alone, so plenty for all you ST Fans out there to try.
enjoy
[align=center:37ckxe3g](http://i60.tinypic.com/2j0jzwg.jpg)[/align:37ckxe3g]
comments welcome and any suggestions you'd love to see in here.
Looks brilliant pal..
Nice layout, many magazines these days use too many layers and overlaps. For me, that is how a magazine should look, just enough vibrancy without being distracting and easy to zoom in to whichever feature takes the reader's eye at any one time. Well done, I hope it does well, very well
thanks guys..if there is anything you'd liked covered in the magazine, let me know. I'm making it mammoth this time around.. and also have a few announcements to make shortly as well
All in very good time
Looks very nice, GF! Nicely done.Â
I'm being all mysterious and secretive about it all..for now the previews are all that's being revealed ;)
Looking forward to it pal..
Preview Image has been updated on the first post to give a little bit more of what to expect..lots of things planned for it and is coming along very smoothly...will post more about it soon as I have it created.
Looks superb, GF!
Thanks TrekÂ
, it has been so far quite an ambious project and great undertaking to achieve, but it is well deserving of a machine like the Atari 8-bit isn't seen like other computers and why it is my goal to both change that and bring so freshness to the Atari ST scene. This is another projected checked off my bucket list.
And we applaud you for it
I mean that sincerely by the way. I think it is both fantastic and incredible that there are people like yourself and sites like this one that really do make a difference. The path to ridding the world of ignorance is long and arduous but, together we'll all get there.
Just looks awesome fella.
A bit of an update , this is still coming along brilliantly and I'm very happy with the content and the look so far, this is going to be like sweet honey for Atari ST gamers and users alike , so I thought I would share another 2 page preview with you all and hope you like what's inside. Got some amazing plans for this Magazine, including hopefully a fully multi-touch version of the magazine for your Android devices and Kindle fires
.

Very good! Congrats!
Thanks fellasÂ
A bit cheeky, but are you doing a deal for the two Atari mags Grey (the original and the ST one) ?
Quote from: "Simon_G"A bit cheeky, but are you doing a deal for the two Atari mags Grey (the original and the ST one) ?
Hiya Simon, I haven't set up a dual buy as of yet, as I'm working on Issue two of Atari ST Gamer magazine at the moment and was consider doing a double pack buy for those when Issue two has ran it's course in sales, and then there will be a dual buy for both Atari ST Gamer magazines (Issue 1 & 2) and when that's done I'll be doing a Triple buy special price on all three Magazine as a Atari Magazine set, but that is some time away, I'm maximizing the profits doing it this way. Now that's been cheeky :113:
I want them both, I'm greedy
Congrats on hitting triple figures Greyfox! Make an Amiga one you know you want too!
Quote from: "AmigaJay"Congrats on hitting triple figures Greyfox! Make an Amiga one you know you want too!
The only reason , why I didn't do an Amiga one, was because there are lots of Amiga mags out there,
Amiga Future and
APOV and then you have that
Amiga Reviewer guide been created by The Drisk also, My goal was to obtain features and splendid reviews and articles for the unsung Atari Heroes of the 8 bit and 16 bit era, to bring them back from the dead and have achieved this on so many levels with both the Atari Gamer magazine and Atari ST Gamer Magazine, but alias after Issue 2 is released I will be hanging my hat in magazine creation, making things like this chronically pulls on resources, time, effort for all involved and then you have PR after than etc.. it's like having an opening event every time I release something, but I can't complaint, the feedback has been more good than bad if I'm honest and people on the Atari Community have really shown great support to the magazines, especially our American cousins.
So to answer your question, I very much doubt their will be an Amiga Gamer magazine :113:
Just purchased both Atari mags Grey, not sure how I get to download them though

Thanks mate,
The ST was my second computer (after the CPC464) so I am particularly looking forward to read about it. Lots of nostalgia there for me.
I have received the emails regarding the downloads, thanks.

You and me both fella :)
Hello everyone, I'm so very proud to announce that Atari Gamer Magazine (//http) will be getting a Limited Print Run in the next few weeks, this is a once off thing and I am working in collaboration with Pro (c) Atari Magazine's creator Markus Rösner who truly is a true Atari Fan. Both Markus and myself have been wanting this for some time and that time is now.
I will follow up with details on when and where the magazine will be available to purchase, due to the nature of this product their will be a trail run of a limited amount of copies (20 for now) minus my copy and Markus's copy and noting that this is full a4 size full colour printing so the pricing may be a little stiff, but this will be a very limited run and customers who purchase it will have a collector's magazine in very small numbers.
there is also plans to do the Atari ST Gamer Magazine as well if this is successful at launch. So very excited that I will be holding my own Magazine physically in my hands, I never thought I'd see that.
Thanks for listening.
That's cool! Congratulations!
Thanks Trek. This is a great achievement for me as I never thought it would happen. If Successful this and possible both issues of Atari ST Gamer Magazine will get done (Issue two in production). So all you Atari Fans out there. watch this space.
The Atari 8-bit sadly goes under appreciated amongst the wealth of other computers out there a.k.a. ZX Spectrum, c64, Amstrad etc and this magazine was created to set the record straight that Atari 8-bit can punch above it's weight!
Hi Mr Fox,
Please forgive my ignorance but am I right to assume some of us may be able to purchase the proper print version? You see, PDF's are ok but I very much prefer to hold the real deal. I have not been on the site for some time but I do have alerts for several topics like this one. I am intrigued and very interested in a proper printed version. Can I put my name forward for said copy? Alas, I am not so interested in the ST mag simply because it was always out of reach for me so I jumped from 8 to 64 bit. I will not be collecting 8-bit stuff but it was a huge part of my adolescence and the mag looks like a fabulous reflection of my own personal history and love of Atari.
~~~
EDIT: Yes, I did play Atari today (actually it was Sunday) I played Rayman on my Jag with a new fan who had never heard of the system till he met me
Cheers pal, delighted you'd love to get a copy, as soon as I word on what's happening, the time frame and what it will all cost, as I've yet to hear from the person behind the setup. I'm at present creating new promotional material for it, that will feature in "Return" magazine a German publication. Also there is plans to take it to a gaming event for resale. So I'm hoping that there will be enough demand that we can cater for orders of it for distribution to the likes of yourself, I want as much as possible to deliver this magazine at a reasonable price and quality we are all happy with.
I'll let you know as soon as I hear anything, which won't be long I suspect.
I would also be very interested in further details
Sounds great, I'd be in for a physical edition!
;)
It's all been noted fella
I want one. That's 4Â
I am very proud to announce that Atari Gamer Magazine is now available in a very limited run , here are some details from the distributor of the physical release of the magazine.
Pro (C) Atari Magazine is in charge of the Distribution of the Physical copies of the Atari Gamer Magazine.
Hallo community,
this is Markus of PRO ( C ) ATARI Magazine and I can announce here a special project:
Do you already know about ATARI GAMER XL/XE Game Review Edition PDF Magazine released by Darren Doyle?
If you know of this, you know:
- there are cool reviews inside
- there are amazing interviews inside
- and you know the layout is incredible
It was so sad it was only a PDF Magazine, as I personally do not like the electronic magazine releases. I am one of those old fashioned styled guys who loves printed magazines.
we have done a single copy run of the ATARI GAMER Magazine at my local print shop. The quality is excellent will say ok and the binding not perfect, but at least it wasn't overly expensive. So I asked Darren Doyle (Greyfox) to make this project happen and release his PDF magazine as Limited Edition in a printed format. And so we done it and it is finished:
The magazine is
29,7cm height by 21cm width
full colored printed
with 250gr paper envelope
and 135 glossy paper inside
So a high-quality and strong magazine at the end.
The magazine features on 72 amazing layout pages:
- Atari Time Tunnel
- Atari Fun Facts
- 2 Interviews
- System Focus on 130XE
- Atari 8bit Trivia
- 60 Game Reviews
- Atari Computers in Europe in the 80ies
- 8bit Lost Games You'll Never See
- 20 Homebrew Game Reviews
Get your amazing copy of this limited print-run NOW...
With the purchase you also not get only a special collectors items, also:
- you support our work on PRO ( C ) ATARI Magazine
- you support the work of releasing other great releases for our beloved system
- you support the work of Darren Doyle and his team to release more great Magazines
- you say: Atari rules !
Due the limited print run it is not really cheap at the end, but if you hold the magazine in your hand you recognize: Every single cent was worth purchasing the magazine and when you read it finally, you would def. think: "The magazine would worth tripe price"
So what to do to purchase:
Please send PayPal-Payment of Euro 15,00 (incl. standard shipment - if you prefer I should send registered service please add euro 2,50 to
8bit@proc-atari.de to order your copy.
Any question also to this email address. And please do no forget to include your mailing address, thanks.
Have fun with this amazing work!
Cheers
Markus
I hope you'll all support this if you can. it's an amazing achievement for me personally and professionally
Cheers
Darren.
Just sent payment. Looking forward to it, thanks
Will send mine after my holiday. Can you make sure one is saved for me fella? Cheers
So is this dead?
For the time being thanks to Mr.Cu.Next.Tuesday, but should make a return at some stage in the future, but for now it's limited to those lucky 20, who managed to secure a copy for there collectors pile of magazines, books and Atari memorabilia.
Yours should be reserved as mentioned, let me know if it has worked out.
Again I want to thank everyone for the support on the Atari Gamer Magazine. I never claimed ownership of the text submit within the reviews, homebrew reviews, Xe system focus, but the magazine as a whole delivered product to which nobody has the right to claim or demand royalties for. Thank you.
Thanks for the update.
I checked the mail on my way to work this morning and found my copy of Atari Gamer Magazine! Thanks Greyfox and Markus, it looks great :113:
Thanks very much Trek, a lot of hard and pain staking work for this one. would put you off doing magazines for life after this, but what a trip. truly great content in this issue, I even impressed myself
Brilliant work chap and a fantastic read.
Delighted you enjoyed it pal. maybe now people will give the Atari ST some deserving credit it's owned. On so many levels the ST has been the starting point for lots of stuff that came out on other platforms and should be acknowledged for that.
It truly was a great machine, especially in the right hands
Great work as always
Thanks pal. really appreciate it
, I can now return to getting back to work over here now...some great plans for the future.
Very impressed with the quality of the visual layout as always!
Thanks Justin, you know me?. has to be done to the ridiculous maximum or nothing at all. and it's a pretty good read too
, some amazing demos reviewed by myself, you'd believe they were done on an a1200 030 lol.
And so mine arrived.
Awesome work all round.
Wow! That looks incredible. Must be great to see all that hard work manifest. Really inspiring stuff.
I tell you what pal, I am in awe of it to be honest.. This is only a hobby to all of us and to see some of the lengths people go is just amazing..
Ohh yeah, it's a great accolade to have something you worked hard on and then to be given the privilege in getting it in physical form was and is very exciting, I know it's a niche magazine and all but it's something I created along with those who contributed to the magazine and helped make it a reality.
But you yourself won't be left in the cold Marc, as I hope to have issue One of ST Gamer done and hopefully ready for print by September and hopefully one will wing it's way to you then as a thank you for all your hard work and effort
But yes, it's an amazing high to have your own stuff published.Â
These are still available people and a must own if you don't have them.
