The Watermelon team has revealed that Project y is now Paprium. Paprium is going to be a two player game that will come on a 64meg cart just like Pier Solar. Two editions of the game will be available to non backers, the limited edition (like the investor version minus a few thing's like the combbook, nice sturdy strong cardboard like the first edition of Pier Solar) and the classic edition. (clamshell like the Pier Solar reprint) A limited six button arcade still will also be available in limited quantities to the public.

I've received a few emails about this lately and it's nice to see it's getting close to being done. I've had the Investor edition pre-ordered for a couple years now I think. Hope the game turns out good!
It does look good and that video is not even the newest one. Apparently a new one will be released soon.
Blimey, I had forgotten all about this! I was following the development thread on Sega-16 religiously until about 6 months ago. I've not seen any emails, I'm sure I'm on the mailing list.
I'm happy to see the progress.

I never get any emails from them either. Only order-related ones even though I have signed up several times.
The only reason I got emails is because I'm an investor. The cutoff for being an investor was at least a couple years ago which means that's how long it's been since I payed for the game, so I would assume some people were getting impatient. To be honest I completely forgot about it until a month ago when they started sending out the emails to assure people it was still coming.
Ah, no wonder. Well, hopefully the game is completed an available for purchase. It looks awesome. I wish these guys made games like these for the Jaguar.
It seems the main criticism of Watermelon is their customer facing or social side of the business appears to be dreadful.
I want to buy this so I just hope they make that a simple affair.

You can also pre-order the game now, just hit the link in the first post :)
Yep, already saw that. The controller is available as well for preorder but not sure of how many of those they still have available.
Well, finally got an update!

You're receiving this message because you have a preorder (or more) at WM's Magical Game Factory !
Thanks for your patience. It's been exactly one year since we started taking orders for PAPRIUM (and a couple more years of wait for our hardcore MGF fans), It's been extremely stressful year for everyone, we bet.
Regarding what's going on:
We had an issue with the DATENMEISTER chip-set manufacturing which resulted in some last minute changes. I've worked round-the-clock for the last couple of weeks to find a workaround and been very scarce on updates, my apologies.
In the next (couple) days we have to adjust the game to reflect those changes. Moreover, in the mean time, there will be an additional round of QC and testing. Rest assured everyone involved has been working hard to solve all the issues and ensure a superior product. Our aim is to deliver the ultimate Mega Drive / SEGA Genesis game, in time for the system 30'th anniversary.
Thanks everyone for your comprehension, and my sincere apology for the lack of news.
PS: We have posted this message on facebook but it took some extra days for the newsletter to send, sorry for the inconvenience.
For the one that would find the extra wait just too much, contact our support for a refund. For the others, a huge thanks, you won't be disappointed !
For any concerns, please contact the costumer support.

I believe the 30th anniversary is this fall, so hopefully they make it!
Yes, I got this too. It would definitely be cool if they can make it by the 30th anniversary!
Well, looks like this is actually finished!
Received an email yesterday with the following info:
QuoteOn the 27th of October 2018, we are having a party in Paris, France. Let’s celebrate SEGA Genesis / Mega Drive's 30th anniversary and the release of PAPRIUM. We understand this is a long trip but if by any chance you are around at that time, you're of course very welcome. Please contact us at 1988@watermelon-games.com for booking and details. The party starts at 19PM for some talk with WM and some 16-bit fun and then turn into electro music feast from 23PM until 6AM. The event is free but booking is required in advance.
PS: We are working hard to ensure you to receive your games around that time but we can't guarantee it at the moment. You will receive another email shortly to confirm your shipping address.
Can't wait to finally try the game!
Cool!
At last was the words the reverberated around the internet lol.
Well, looks like the Paprium saga isn't over yet.
The party in Paris went ahead and the game was there and playable. . . but there were no enemies on screen. I saw some footage on Youtube and it was just the main character walking through the environments.
Also, I haven't tried sending an email but people are saying all the email addresses have been deactivated.
I'm not ready to say it was a scam and the game won't be finished, but I'm getting close and there are a lot of people who already feel that way. The only reason I'm not giving up completely is I just can't understand why they would have this big party if the game wasn't going to be finished. Why spend the money?
This whole thing is very strange! I'm just glad I only pre-ordered one copy of the game. If it doesn't get finished I'm out $100 but some people ordered multiple copies and have a lot more money invested.
Wow, that is really bad. How unfortunate that there are people taking advantage of those of us who are into retro gaming by doing stuff like this.
From what I've read there is only one person left at the company. He's the main programmer of the game and a major control freak, and he pretty much forced out everyone else that worked on the game.
I can understand problems with making the game and running out of money, but why he would send out that email saying it was done and have a party to show it off?
Maybe he needs a psychiatrist?
Yeah, that sounds about right.

I don't believe it, it's actually shipping! It's a Christmas miracle ;D
Lol, its unreal mate, I saw this news earlier.
Lets hope it plays as well as it looks.
Looks amazing.
There is one guy I follow on Twitter who worked on the game and he already has a copy. He says it does play as good as it looks. He might be a little biased of course but I'm looking forward to trying it.
Just looked back to see when this first started. Before they named it Paprium it was just known as Project Y, which was announced in 2012! https://www.retrovideogamer.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=1068.0
So, since this is delivering, we now get videos of it. I must say, it looks fantastic! Check out John Hancock's look at the game.

Did you pick it up Trek or anyone for that matter?
I had forgotten about it but, yes, I did order it. I got a notification that it is being shipped but no tracking info yet.
I am hearing loading issues on various versions on the Megadrive/Genesis.
I hope yours is not one mate.
Apparently there are ways to get around it. If you hook up the entire tower (Genesis/SegaCD/32X) there are no issues. So, I may just do that.
It's here! It took 2 months but the status finally changed from shipping to shipped and it arrived today.
I'll post a couple pics and my thoughts on it after I play it a bit this weekend. :)
Does you cart have the lose metal piece? I need to open mine to either take it out or reglue it.
Yeah I haven't tried it yet but there is definitely something loose inside lol. Did a quick google search and I see some people just saying to remove it which sounds good to me. Never heard of a heat sink inside of a cartridge before and I really can't see why it would need it. Ordered a screwdriver from Amazon to remove the screws in the back of the cart and it's supposed to be here Sunday.
I think I have that type of screwdriver already. I need to open the cart and either remove or glue back whatever the hell it is moving around. I think it is not a heat sink. I believe it is a metal plate with the number for your cart.
Ok, haven't tried it out yet but here are some pics.

I opened it up and took out the heat sink/serial # plate so now I just have to find one of my Sega Genesis consoles that will play this. I have model 1, 2 and a CDX so I'm sure one of them will work.
Still have to find out what's inside the little square package at the bottom. Also before anyone asks, I have no intention of opening the black pouch lol.
If you can't zoom in close enough to see, pics are also here https://twitter.com/Shadowrunner07/status/1366408973994221577
It's definitely a nice package. I already ordered the screwdriver to remove the metal piece. If I can see the spot where it is supposed to be on, I'll glue it with one of the superglues that I have. The controller is really cool, btw.
Do you mean the arcade stick that some people have been showing pictures of? It is nice but I didn't get one. It was a separate item that you could buy.
Yes. I got it.
Oh that's cool. :) Did you post pics? I thought maybe I missed them but I looked and don't see any.
I think I only posted a picture on the thread that has my collection.
