Post by: TrekMD on February 17, 2014, 02:08:30 AM
So, we have a thread of bad custom consoles, how about we look at those that are well done. Let's get started with these modded NES consoles...

The Atari 2600 Druid Edition (50 devices per model). Silver switches with blue/yellow backlight, AV, Stereo Surround and Joystick pause mode. Technical best Atari 2600 console ever. These mods are unique worldwide.

Cool stuff. I just wonder how the NES consoles were cut out. Did that guy have a CNC laser table?

Good question and I don't know the answer.  I suppose it is possible.  Here are some additional modded NES consoles.  It seems the NES gets modded quite frequently!

most likely as it looks like a toy for children ;-)
I wonder why they do the cutout and not using backlight which is quite nicer than another color.

Slightly amateurish on the lower one, but still pretty good overall, considering the amount of custom brushwork involved.

Funny, because I kind of considered the last one for the other thread. The first one has an airbrushed appearance, especially on Sonic's hands and is quite nice in a weird sort of way.

The hand is nice but the Sonic writing looks like it was done with Tippex! Could be the angle though.

I have seen that gold Zelda NES before. Quite nice.

I found some of the guy's work I was thinking of, Custom NES Guy. Like I said, he does automotive quality finishes.

This one isn't Custom NES Guy's, but is still impressive IMO.

are the controller painted or is this a plastic leaf? I'm asking because a joystick is normally stressed and the hands are like rubberbands after a while.

I saw this in the "bad" custom console thread.
The colour may not be to everyone's taste but I have to say, it's really well done.
The original pic doesn't do it justice so here it is.

I visited the original website and it seems only painted. Both the background and the text is sprayed.
the 30th anni logo is created out of thin plexi glas. the gray looks fantastic.

That Snes is super Nice, and a real shame they didn't do them like that back in the 1990's, there could of being some really rare one now.
Title: Re: Good Custom Consoles

the SNES are very cheap today. In ebay < 20 EUR. The power led AND light within the logo is overkill in my opinion. Why not simple remove the light and use the logo only? (as it is painted anyway no big task).
the black labels on the function keys looks a little bit "handmade" in my opinion. White would be nicer, too.
I've bleeched some SNES and they looks very nice so not sure if painting is really required here.

That's truly amazing and unless it's being done by everyone, I think the new standard has been set. Pretty soon everything else could pale in comparison and even be deemed 'a crappy homebrew mod' after seeing that. Dayum!

I tend not to like custom jobs but that 1st one looks legit. The UK game boxes had that grid pattern on them so that continues the theme.  The fake control panel is a bit much though -  less is more with these sort of things. Still a nice job though.

Just checked some earlier posts too. Some of these are really impressive. Really professional jobs.
