Any Phillips Videopac owners here? I have a couple one boxed and one unboxed..
Have 3/4 games for it but i have never even tested them...YET...

I have a videopac too,
I have Two unboxed consoles and aound ten games for them.
I'm pretty sure that your games will work. Both the consoles and cartridges were made to be pretty tough. The only problem I did have with one of my consoles was a ribbon in one of the controllers not sitting tight enough in its slot, all things considering, was a fairly easy repair.
Going to have a play over the weekend..
The boxed one was given to me in working condition so i am 100% sure that will work.
Looking forward to seeing what its like.
I have never even seen one, let alone played on one.
All I know is that it was released in the US as the Magnavox Odyssey 2 and that the best games are supposed to be Pick Axe Pete and KC Munchkin.
I'll be honest, in comparison the Atari2600 beats it hands down in all aspects but it is still fun to have a go on and an interesting console to own.
Interesting to see that it still has such an active homebrew scene!

I have a couple of Odyssey 2's with the voice add-on. K.C. Munchkin is better then Atari 2600 Pac Man.
I like Alien Invaders plus. It is a take on the Space Invaders theme. It is the system I had first. But I would rather play my Atari's, Coleco
or Intellivision.
I had never seen K.C. Munchkin in action. Looks like a fun Pac-Man clone that introduces its own unique elements.Â
Yep and they made a - I guess you could call it a sequel to the original.
K.C.'s Krazy Chase! It uses the Odyssey 2 voice module.

How different is it from the original?
Instead of Munchies you have what is called a Dratapillar(not sure of spelling). Looks like a Centipede to me.
The voice says things like look out and makes laughing noises.
You chase the thing and it looks like trees are in the maze. I think it is better then the first game.

Cool, maybe I can find a video on YouTube for it.
Found a video for it!

So what do you think?

Looks interesting. A very creative variation of the theme.Â
Safe way to not have Atari come after you for making a copy of Pac Man.
Yeah looks good.
That looks really cool, very original!!!Â
Late to the game but just played the proto of Spiderman. Used an emulator but makes me want to get the
multi-cart so I can play on the real system. Not quite as good as the 2600 but one of the best looking O2
games I have seen in a long time.
At first I thought you were the snake thing. Looks well thought out game on a well used theme.
Yeah. Maze games were the thing back then. Must be why I am a big fan of them. Plus they were not all cookie cutter
carts.Â

No idea why that wasn't showing up, was fine earlier. I just re-uploaded it.
Thanks! Great scan.
I really wish the Odyssey 2 could have had more success and been able to release more games.
Ah, now I can see the image. Looks very nice! I really like that billiards game!

One of my friends had a videopac and I remember spending a lot of time playing a two-player asteroids clone that was pretty cool.
I have two O^2's and I love them both.
I think in many cases the gfx are better than the Atari 2600's.
The flicker in many 2600 games sucks. Most of the O^2's games are very smooth and flicker free.
The sounds are definitely in need of help though.
I think the games are by far some of the best ideas ever.
UFO!
Freedom Fighters
Take the Money and Run
Attack of the Time Lord
KC Munchkin: the best Pac Man clone ever!
Invaders From Hyper Space: totally Kills...awesome game, especially with a bud
There are tons of really good games for this system. I actually started a few myself...never got around
to finishing them up though.
I never realised Super Cobra was released for the Videopac!
https://youtu.be/tsFx7K-hzjI
Or Demon Attack for that matter!
https://youtu.be/lKUzLXNJH40
Interesting how they have to scroll the screen on Super Cobra. Demon Attack doesn't look bad.
That must be an early version of Demon Attack...I have that for the O^2 and the sound
is better and the game play is much faster....maybe that was ran on an emulator. It's
definitely a better game than what that video portrays.
A couple more games on the machine, firstly a nice variation on Outlaw:
Showdown in 2100 A.D. for the Magnavox Odyssey² / Philips Videopac (//http)
And a really cool looking clone of Space Invaders:
Alien Invaders - Plus! for the Magnavox Odyssey²/Philips Videopac (//http)
Great vids! Alien Invaders-Plus is tough. Also, one of the few games on the Odyssey 2 that gives the player more then one life.
Those cowboys do look better than the cowboys on the 2600! Is the collision detection faulty on Alien Invaders-Plus or was it intentionally programmed that way?!

Nothing at all faulty. The bottom row are the invaders shields. They can't be destroyed.
War Of Nerves was a fun game to play!

Ah, ok. They have better protection than the player then! LOL

Pretty much.
I appreciate, that Phillips and Magnavox tried to make games that were different enough from Atari, Coleco and Mattel. War of Nerves proves that theory. I can't think of any other game that comes close.
Only so many ways you can change Space Invaders or Pac-Man, but still I give an A for effort.

Thanks Laird!!!! Sad to see the video end. Good reviews.Â
"looks like a pink dildo!"Â
Unfortunately the rest of their videos suck moose. They really trash the Jaguar CD, clearly admitting they don't een know how to play the games. What a bunch of ass devils.
A couple of new videos from the Classic Game Room:

Very nice! I really like his videos. I wonder if he'd ever consider joining a forum like ours.
I say Odyssey 2 wins. It kept Hi-score. At least till you shut it down.
As much as I love the DC, I have to go with the O^2.....I had tons of great memories from that machine.
I only wish Magnavox had Atari's IP's...they would have been better on O^2 for a good deal of the games.

Still lovin' my O^2.
Here is a video of the Terrahawks 2 prototype that was released recently:

Love the Intro! Nice looking game
Good to see folks are wringing more out of the old O^2.
Looks good.. and as above good to see dev still going on.
It's not a new game, it's a prototype as I have previously said, that was recently released on cart.
I already posted this in the Android thread but some people probably will have missed it there:

I tried it out. I don't really like how the touch controls work. I have to see if it works with a joypad.
That is cool!
Wonder why Philips treats the system like a red headed step child? The are still many fans of Philips Videopac/Magnavox Odyssey 2 systems and it seems like a slap in the face not support it better! >:(

That Frogger port looks cool. The way it was done is also interesting with the screen changing once you get to the edge of the river. Quest for Rings is a pretty unique game too.
Always good to see some different games for the system. I have never tried the board game part of Quest for the Rings, bought my copy years later. Back in the early 80's the board/video game must have been a dream for Videopac/O2 players. Something they could brag about to their Atari friends.

If Nintendo REALLY wanted to blow people away for Super Mario's 35th, they'd do a physical release of Super Mario Odyssey 2 on the Magnavox Odyssey 2.
Wouldn't that be something!
