I am genuinely after suggestions for what are the must have games for the Mega Drive as I may look to buy, so please read on :)
How in living hell do you not own Streets Of Rage 2? ???
In my opinion the best game you own is Golden Axe.
hmm... Pretty sure I owned Streets Of Rage 2 when I originally had the Mega Drive, bear in mind this collection now has been brought back since about 2004, I sold all my original stuff in 1998 to buy games for my saturn and a second hand ps1... I know, unforgivable lol
I did like Streets of Rage 2 though it did frustrate me slightly. Must admit I never saw Toe Jam and Earl, is that actually any good? I have Wonderboy and the Dragons trap on Master System, is that the same?
"EDIT" hey, pretty sure I'm not going nuts, Wonderboy 3 was only on Master System right?

Toe Jam & Earl is one of the greatest and most original games ever made:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0x9pBTmPEqY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0x9pBTmPEqY)
Wonderboy 3 on the Mega Drive is a totally different game:

oh right, cool, I didn't realise there was a version on Mega Drive, thats pretty awesome. Have you played it personally? I had a look at Toe Jam and Earl, looks cool.
anyone else got any other suggestions?

I own it, hence why I recommended itÂ
I could probably recommend 10 more games that you don't have with ease!!!!
you own it? wow, isn't it like, an RPG or platformer? which I seem to recall you hating? lol
Quote from: "dcultrapro"you own it? wow, isn't it like, an RPG or platformer? which I seem to recall you hating? lol
It's one of the VERY few platformers I like! That's how good it is!!!!Â
wow, thats impressive lol, might try it out. only problem with these games is finding them at a reasonable price
I saw mercs on ebay for Master System and Mega Drive, MS is cheaper, might watch out for it, I need to go back to car boots etc to find some proper deals lol

Both Mercs and Wonderboy III are very common so should be able to be picked up for less than a fiver.
mercs isn't too bad but wonderboy at the moment is expensive, a full one is a tenner + P+P and a cart is 7.99 on ebay lol, I'll keep looking
meantime, feel free to list the others you mentioned you could suggest lol
I wanna get the Mega Drive E-swat version, the SMS one I have is a bit poo
Ghouls n Ghosts is probably my personal favorite of the games you have so far.
But, it's easy to list dozens of quality games that you're missing... first 5 that I thought of: Alien Soldier, Gunstar Heroes, Thunder Force 3, Shinobi 3, Streets of Rage 2.
Shadow Dancer
Super Fantasy Zone
Granada
Crackdown
Gynoug
Mazin Wars
Bio Hazard Battle
Mega Turrican
Red Zone
Zero Tolerance
Dick Tracy
Forgotten Worlds
Rambo III
Thnderforce II, III & IV
Rolling Thunder II
Splatterhouse 2
Empire Of Steel
Smash TV
Predator 2
Robocop Vs. Terminator
Xenon 2
The Punisher
And... there are a couple dozen.
what game was it I saw recently where a character or robot had to fly around a map and find enemy points/locations etc, can't remember which one it was
I'm definitely tempted to look into the following:
(I have the SMS versions of Xenon 2 and Rambo 3)
Mega Turrican
Shadow Dancer
Zero Tollerance (wow FPS??)
the punisher
theres a few others I wanna look into, is Battletech any good? I saw a vid of that and the graphics look excellent

No idea what game you are talking about!
Not played Battletech.
The Punisher might be a bit out of your price range . . . .
Not yet mentioned:
Streets of Rage 1 (Â
)
Castlevania
Mega Bomberman (not the best version, but it's still Bomberman)
its strange, I can't remember what system it was for now, I'm pretty sure its a 16bit game or possibly Master System, its a top down perspective and it looked like really good fun, you pilot something around a map and have to kill enemies and avoid their fire, though its mission based and not a scrolling Shmup
I'm gonna look into Mega Turrican now actually
How is Cannon Fodder for the Mega Drive?
pretty good I'd say, though I do slightly prefer the Jaguar version because of the improved sound and what not but theres really not a lot of difference between gameplay/graphics at all
Punisher is going for £1,000!!! holy fcuk, and Mega Turrican is nowhere to be seen, though I SERIOUSLY remember that front cover (googled it) think I may possibly have owned it or been tempted to buy it in the past

I was lucky with my Punisher, I got it for £28 when it usually goes for over £100!!!Â
I picked up Mega Turrican a while back but can't remember how much I paid.
think I worked out what game I was thinking about
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxbcvNjq1Ns (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxbcvNjq1Ns)
lol, couldn't for the life of me remember the name, that does look good
so far none of the games I'd be interested in are coming up at good prices, nothing for Granada either
Yes it does!
I have played the 3DO version of Cannon Fodder. I was not sure what Genesis games were not released as Mega Drive games and vice versa. I do have Toe Jam & Earl. So I will second that game.
Granada is amazing, the scaling and rotation effects on the bosses are amazingly impressive!!!
It was only released in the US and Japan so you will need to seach worldwide, I paid about £10 for mine and the exchange rate is great at the moment too.
so which T & E game is it I should look at, the first one?
oh and will this allow me to use any region games that have protection?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pro-Action-Re ... 717wt_1298 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pro-Action-Replay-Sega-Megadrive-Complete-/280949852604?pt=UK_PC_Video_Games_Video_Games_JS&hash=item4169ea89bc&_uhb=1#ht_717wt_1298)
I think most people prefer the first one. I actually quite liked the second though.
Quote from: "dcultrapro"so which T & E game is it I should look at, the first one?
Yeah the first one, second one is ok but quite a different game and nowhere near as good.

Yes, that is the exact one that I have!
Most US games will play fine without it though.
Getting this topic back on track,
The best game for the Mega Drive is of course Shadowrun!!!!Â
You guys should really know thatÂ
I'm bidding on the following on Ebay after peoples suggestions:
Alisia Dragoon
Mercs
Toe Jam And Earl
Wrestle War (not a suggestion, I had it before; Nostalgia lol)
Asterix and the Great Rescue
Shadow Dancer
Zero Tolerence
Vectorman
please keep the suggestions coming!
whats shadow run like? and has anyone played Battletech? Saw the graphics of that and if I can find it reasonably priced I might buy it

Alisia Dragoon is pretty good, if you like that then you will like a game called Jewel Master too.
I remember you saying earlier about ESWAT, if you like that them you will love Rolling Thunder 2.
I picked up Wrestle War a while back as I LOVED it when I was younger, sadly it has aged terribly!Â

I'll bet it hasn't lol, ok cool I'll have a look around
I've put an offer in on Battletech on ebay, I want the following ones sometime but doubt I will ever buy them:
Castlevania Bloodlines          (buy it now £99)
Granada                   (buy it now £17.99)
Gunstar Heroes              (£40/£50)
Mega Turrican               (£40)
Shadow Run                (£45-£149... there is also a Mega CD version? WTF??)
Wonderboy 3 Monster Lair       (bidding on a cheap auction)
any others I should consider that might be closer to my price range? I've downloaded all of them as ROMs to try out and so far all of the above are pretty good
Do you have Wolfchild? I reckon that is your sort of game, the Mega CD version is the best to go with.
Have you checked out Mazin Wars too?
I have got Wolfchild yeah on Mega CD, Mazin Wars? hmm...
Wow, I can't believe how much shadowrun goes for in the UK.
I guess that's because it was never actually released on the Mega Drive, just the Genesis. You can buy a copy on ebay.com ( the US site ) for way less. Even with shipping it shouldn't cost anywhere near the prices you mentioned.Â
I do not own Herzog Zwei but I have often heard good things about the game.
not that I'm nitpicking or having a go but when you say not released on the Mega Drive I assume what you mean is it was not released in Europe, because obviously Mega Drive and Genesis are the same machine, right?
Quote from: "dcultrapro"not that I'm nitpicking or having a go but when you say not released on the Mega Drive I assume what you mean is it was not released in Europe, because obviously Mega Drive and Genesis are the same machine, right?
I am not nit picking but Mega Drive was only called the Genesis in North America, it's the MD in the rest of the worldÂ
Yeah but Genesis sounds cooler ;) ;D
Mega Drive is possibly the best console name ever.

I was thinking the same

Yes I meant not released in Europe.
As for the name I actually like Mega Drive better, even though it wasn't released under that name where I live.

The original name for the Sega Genesis in North America was the Atari Tomahawk!
Sega wanted to call it something "American" and chose that name but Atari hated it and told Sega they thought it was a bit offensive (to Native Americans). As they were the ones set to release the machine in the US at that time they got to change the name and one of their programmers called Steve Rhyno (who programmed Toki on the Lynx) came up with Genesis and it stuck, even when the deal with Sega fell through. He chose it because it was supposed to represent a new start, being the first fully 16-bit console on the market, not for any religious reasons.
Now there's some obscure trivia! Atari made the right choice, the Tomahawk is a terrible name lol
If you like your RPG's then get buck Rogers. It's a bit different from the like of phantasy star, but equally if not more enjoyable. Graphically awful and sonically mediocre, but massively playable.
Mega lo mania is another great title..

Well said that man.
Couple of others i really liked on Megadrive:
Corporation (Core) and Predator 2.
Battletech got a snip of a look in SEGA Magazine Issue 3:
'Battletech:it's utterly Brilliant' they say Absolute Entertainment did'nt have a licensce to produce Sega games in Europe.
Sega magazine felt Battletech was better than Desert Strike due to:clearer strategic gameplay, larger range of weapons and abilty to stomp on smaller robots'
On different note:
I really enjoyed MD Ex-Mutants. Not a looker but had me hooked.
I just came across this, an Amiga/ST style demo for the Mega Drive:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bSYNuqBIvs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bSYNuqBIvs)
Floating Mega Drive. Then a massive visual headache. Finally, a cool demo!
I have also heard good things about Buck Rogers.
Thoughts on TMNT The Hyperstone Heist?
Quote from: "nakamura"I have also heard good things about Buck Rogers.

I have it, excellent game but its going for very high prices these days for such a common game. I was lucky as I managed to snag one CIB on a BIN for £20! I have seen it go for £50 boxed!Â
It's not as good as Turtles In Time on the SNES though.
Ah I wondered how it compared to Turtles in Time. I will give it a go though.
I bought a copy a few years ago and it seemed to be holding its value then. Big TMNT fan so any game with them is good.
I like Tyrants: Fight Through Time as an early and good real-time strategy game. I wrote a review of this game and Rambo III for the Genesis for Sega16.com a few years back. Also wrote reviews for Space Harrier and Doom for the 32x.

An early article on the Mega Drive from UK magazine The One that I just came across:

The first model is so much nicer looking. I've both models - the model 2 is unmodded so doesn't get any use really.
The Micro Machines games are the business on Megadrive.

It actually came out in Europe for the Super Nintendo, but apparently, nobody played it, because it's still pretty hard to find around, ah, my usual places. It was... all right, from what I played of it, I suppose. Basically felt like the original Putty if the levels scrolled in every direction, instead of just up. And it still has

Very interesting!Â
Didn't Nintendo approach Atari a gen before about a deal to distribute the Famicom too? Atari could have been rolling it in one way or another.
Thank The Lord the deal fell throughÂ
Quote from: "davyK"Didn't Nintendo approach Atari a gen before about a deal to distribute the Famicom too? Atari could have been rolling it in one way or another.
Yes they did. Also makes you wonder what would have happened!
With the same people in charge I am certain the same outcome.
Quote from: "zapiy"With the same people in charge I am certain the same outcome.
Maybe, maybe not. It would have depended on how much Nintendo pushed Atari's leadership.
Agreed but that's the whole problem. The leadership chose not to in the first place hence the downfall I suspect.
It was Warner Bros. Atari that were approached to distribute the Famicom/NES in America though (who chose the 7800 instead) and it was Tramiel Atari who were going to sell the Genesis.
So completely different people involved each time.
Absolutely classic Sega Genesis video I just found:
Sega Genesis (1990) (//http)
That video is a classic, indeed. I did not know that Michael was himself involved in the development of Moonwalker but I admit to not being surprised.Â
Quote from: "TrekMD"That video is a classic, indeed. I did not know that Michael was himself involved in the development of Moonwalker but I admit to not being surprised.Â
Yes, Jacko himself was a massive Sega fan!
I read something, probably in the book Game Over, that Atari was only really interested in the NES so that they could bury it and leave the market open to their 7800.

That's good to know. The NES Everdrive works great so I figured this one would too. It's just that it is a bit more expensive than the N8 and I wanted to check before spending the money.Â
Just found this video and thought it cool to share. Let's have a look at the Genesis Model 3...

You just reminded me Trek, I keep meaning to ask you what you think of the Genesis/Mega Drive being a new owner.
What are your thoughts on the system in general and what are your favourite games?
I must say that I love it! It is a fantastic system and I'm quite glad I got it. The controller is great also. It is just right in terms of size and shape so that it is comfortable to use. I'm still trying out the games but I do have a growing collection. I have more stuff coming and I'm eager to get the Mega Everdrive but it is sold out. It came back in stock but it was gone before I could order it.Â
So, the titles I've enjoyed the most so far: Altered Beast, Batman Forever, Battletoads/Double Dragon, Gauntlet IV, and Vectorman. I plan to play several other titles this weekend so that list will likely grow. I am waiting on some Sega CD titles as well.Â
Â
Awesome! Will be interested to hear your opinions on more games, have you played TMNT yet?
Quote from: "The Laird"Awesome! Will be interested to hear your opinions on more games, have you played TMNT yet?

While playing with my Genesis today, I ran into some issues with the two controllers I have. The 6-button controller wasn't as precise for controlling Ms. Pac-Man and the 3-button controller has some buttons that won't work. So, I looked up videos for fixing them. I found these two nice videos on how to fix and restore the controllers. One focuses on cleaning the plastics while the other focuses on cleaning the circuit board/contacts. Here they are...

One of the very first things I do when I get a new machine is take apart the controllers and clean them.
I want to clean mine to see if I can make them look as nice as in the video.Â

That's cool. I, of course, have the Lynx version but I was not aware the game had been ported to the MD. Something to check out.Â

Definitely, it's much easier and a different game too.
I'm thinking of getting a 6-button arcade stick for my Genesis and found both a Sega branded and an ASCIIWARE stick. They both look good and reviews on YouTube say they are both good. Does anyone have any of these?
Classic Game Room - SEGA GENESIS 6-BUTTON ARCADE STICK joystick review (//http)
ASCIIWARE FIGHTER STICK SG-6 REVIEW (SEGA GENESIS) (//http)[/align:2quqqmsj]
I very much prefer the Sega official sticks, both of them, even the original 3-button arcade stick was a rock solid piece of hardware, very durable and comfortable to use. I have one of those Asciiware sticks and hate it, as I find the buttons can easily wedge themselves in the housing and not pop back up sometimes.
Cool, thanks for the feedback. I have the 3-button Sega arcade stick and I think it is fantastic but several of the games I have work better with the 6-button controllers so I'm looking into getting the 6-button version.
I have the official Sega one, it's a wonderful controller!Â
Another vote of confidence for the Sega controller. Good!Â

Some of us have been chatting about getting reproductions carts for some of the harder to find games for the Genesis/MD and making inserts for cases. I found this video that may be helpful...

On Facebook earlier somebody was asking me what happened to all the articles I wrote for the Revival Gamer website that now seems to be offline. They were asking about one article in particular - the story of the Atari Mega Drive (//http) so I thought I would post it on here for people who might not have read it before!Â
Nice read. Always fun to see what could have been!

Oddly when I click this link from Tapa it tells me to download later^-^
I'll read if later at home
Works fine from my phone, weird.
Great read, thanks for posting itÂ
Just read this thread from the start. Great stuff! That tech demo is cool and the clip of Peter Griffin playing Moonwalker, lol. Also the Atari Tomahawk, WTF! I'm loving the insane Mega Drive knowledge.
One thing that does concern me however is the recommendation to buy some of the more obscure and rare games. They command some hefty prices and appear a little elitist. Are they actually any good or is it purely because they're rare? Basically, is it more style over substance (willy waving 'look what I've got' ammunition)?
In other words, they're out of my price range and I'm jealousÂ

With the Mega Drive at least, some of the rarer games are among the system's best. Thankfully if you are not bothered about having originals then repros can be picked up very cheaply indeed. See the latest retro purchases thread for some images of the ones we have been buying. I myself just picked up the superb Snow Bros. for less than £10!
You can find reproductions of the rare games for a good price if you get carts only. It is well worth it.

I have that one and it is a cool thing to have.Â
Yeah, never really purchased many adapters like that as i have the real hardware.. might be an idea for me to pick them up anyway.
Quote from: "zapiy"Yeah, never really purchased many adapters like that as i have the real hardware.. might be an idea for me to pick them up anyway.
I picked up one of these because it was much easier to find than the original system changer. I guess they are not as common in the US. Never mind the prices on ebay were absurd when I checked.Â
The only drawback is the card slot but still a must have item if you do not have an SMS or the SMS adaptor.
The book "The Secret History of the Sega Genesis" can now be purchased, it was originally Kickstarter only. I'm not big on Kickstarter myself, but now I just may have to pick this up. http://kotaku.com/you-can-buy-the-secret-history-of-the-sega-genesis-1619144836 (//http)
I backed this and I'm really looking forward to getting hold of it.
Had an email update last week to say it will be shipping out to us in a few weeks.
I backed the Genesis book too, really looking forward to it.
Just saw this. Pretty cool: Krikzz Releases Reprogrammable Mega Drive Cartridge Kit (//http).

Yeah its pretty damn awesome bit of kit that is...
Yes it is. It is similar to what was created for the Vectrex. It's a cool way to play games that are only available in ROM.
Well, there are so many lists of top games but here is another one to check out for the Genesis/MD. This one has 50 games!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHFVZsclE3s[/align:ohbupmxp]
Just saw this, which I thought was interesting. I've seen several of these games in Ebay and they are all expensive indeed!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1oMmNg8hpQ[/align:jca5hjq2]
I have a few of those, I always joke that if I go bankrupt I'll just sell off my old Saturn games.
EDIT: I'm just wondering, are the Shining Force games that rare, or are they just high in demand as classics (like Earthbound)? I remember them being pretty common at used game shops/flea markets in the 90's, either way I'm glad I loved RPGs from a young age and snagged them back then.
Great video, i wish i had a few of them lol..
Just watched this. I did not know this extender existed. Does anyone own it? I think I agree with him, though, best to spend the money on a game than this piece of plastic.Â
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1h_5zyuPY2w[/align:27m1c4g5]
When I bought my first Sega CD back in the early 90's it came with the extender, and since I had a model one Genesis I did use it. And yes there was a small plate that held them together, no duct tape required
I did see some being sold with the metal plate on Ebay.Â
I guess it prevents the use of ducktape! LOL
Several pages back, we had some posts about the Genesis/Mega Drive Megatron transformer coming. Well, it is now available and here is a video review of this Transformer!
http://youtu.be/o1NSWsWv2v8
Did you get one Trek?
I did not. They are expensive! As much as I like it, I'm not willing to pay $120 for it or for the PS1 Optimus Prime.Â
Wow that's expensive.
Yep, it sure is! Now you know why I don't have either one.
As nice as this is, I can't help being disappointed that the Megadrive isn't a working one. No technical reason why not. I suppose licence wrangling would be a problem.
Just a little pdf I was creating a couple of years ago just for fun not to sell was a game cover comparison for Megadrive games, planning to hit 100+ pages, only got to 23! So was going through some old bits and rather than delete it I would upload to give people something to look at for 10 mins, anyway you can view it here;
https://issuu.com/amigajay/docs/md_covers_compared (https://issuu.com/amigajay/docs/md_covers_compared)
Good idea, and well laid out. I guess this is one of lifes 'time dependant' projects. I know all about those lol.
The European Crack Down cover is so shit, I love it.
Thanks, yeah there are some funny looking covers in there! I think in the most i prefer more of the Japanese ones if they differ from the other regions.
Cool I always wanted a Sega Mega Drive VR headset... I guess this is probably better TBH. lol
I love the Sonic The Hedgehog games on the Sega Mega Drive they are just classics. My favourite Sonic game Is Sonic 3 And Knuckles :)
I love Jewel Master that game was very challenging and I love the soundtrack as well.
I remember playing Ballz that game was just so fun to play back In the day.
Another game I loved Is Zero Tolerance a brilliant game. It took me ages to get to the final boss at the end. I also loved that each level gives you the password. I remember always writing down the passwords on paper :) Love the cover art of the game as well.
Sparkster Is just a classic game to play as well. I played Sparkster a lot on the Sega Mega Drive and loved the soundtrack as well.
I love Eternal Champions as well that game was awesome to play back then :)
Those are some of my favourite Sega Mega Drive games :) And I love the Streets of Rage series as well.
Here is a nice read pertinent to this system: The Top 10 Racing Games for SEGA Mega Drive (Sega Genesis) (https://www.funstockretro.co.uk/news/the-top-10-racing-games-for-sega-mega-drive-sega-genesis/). Any other games you would have included?
Ghosts and ghouls is awesome, love that game, still own the cartrage.
And it is one tough game!
Here is a video with games that push Sega's MD/Genesis to the limit...

Added Ghouls & Ghosts to my MD collection. In really nice condition too.

I've read this is a bit more manageable than the ridiculously hard Super G&G on SNES. I play that on PS2 using the Capcom Collection which removes the slowdown that is evident on SNES.
However no G&G game is a walkover. I still play the original Ghosts & Goblins - usually on Wii's VC - but I remember playing it in the arcade too. G&G on MD is tough - have go to level 2 though which I haven't managed on Super G&G!!!!
That does look to be in very nice condition. All of these G&G games are tough but they keep you coming back!
I have plans to produce something Sega related if I can acquire the permission from Sega to do it. but not until next year. Keep watching :)
Cool! Can't wait to here more about it.
My complete Micro Machines collection. Just because. :)

on the saturn capcom generations 2 disc to be so much easier than both the other games. I can get to level 4 pretty easily but struggle to get past level 2 on the others.

It is also available on the SNES but we dont speak of such things in the Sega section. :P
That’s a fabulous game in my humble opinion.

I had the SNES version!! :) Had it on MD too.
Sorry to say in a Sega thread but it was a bit better on SNES - or at least I preferred that version. It moved faster (which surprised me) but looked and sounded a bit better too. But a lot of this comes down to taste.
I played it to death - was able to complete it. I found some hidden sections including one that gave you an enormous weapon that gave you a chance against the last boss. But I liked the fact it had lots of little hidden treasure rooms and secret bonuses etc.
After looking at that video it looked like it ran at similar speed to the SNES version as I remember it. Assuming that video is of the NTSC version, I wonder if the SNES version was optimised for PAL. Or maybe I just remember things wrong. :)
Just bought the mega sg from anolouge, off ebay. Comes jailbroke with almost the whole genesis and master system games library between the sd card and the flash cart thats included. I paid a lot but cant wait to get it!!
What did that set you back mate?
Be interested in your thoughts when you get it.
Just leaving this here...

Hi guys! Just want you to know we are making a new game for Mega Drive, and we managed to do what was never done before - we implemented voxels on Mega Drive!
Cool! Will the game be available for the Genesis as well or only PAL?
We're aiming at both versions. You can check our vlog entry here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpRToDE2YKo
Interesting development, will be watching this with anticipation.
We'd like to announce that Mr. Gary Winnick, former LucasArts art department supervisor on Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: The Graphic Adventure, co-creator of Maniac Mansion and Thimbleweed Park, as well as having worked on such iconic games as Rescue on Fractalus!, Defenders of Dynatron City and Star Wars, has decided to join our team!
You can visit his page and see his works for yourself: http://www.garyart.net/
Mr. Winnick will focus on the concepts, as well as creating some image art for VergeWorld project. To have such a game dev legend with us is an honor! Welcome aboard!
Oh, that's awesome! Welcome aboard Mr. Winnick!
There's a very impressive looking port of arcade Shinobi in progress for Megadrive. YT video available.
There are still many good & cheap Sega Genesis games you can still find today. In this video, John Hancock picks 10 games for the Genesis that are still very affordable and common to find.

And then someone from Forced Feedback Classic Game Reviews posted this: You can use a Game Genie to play MD titles on the Model 1 and Model 2 Genesis consoles.
Interesting. So, is the reverse true?
That is cool. Finally found a reason to own a Genesis 3.
Or get a Game Genie and you can still play the games on the Gen 1 or 2. ;)
Good thinking. I have used a Game Genie for other consoles and recommend them but never tried one for any of the Sega Machines.
I have one for the Genesis. I may give this a try.
Here's another video by John Hancock looking at Capcom games for the Genesis...

Always considered my self a Sega Genesis fan but I have only played the a couple of those games. lol. All are nice looking.
Here's another video from John Hancock where he's looking at the games by Tradewest for the Genesis and ranking them. Tradewest Published 7 Games for the Sega Genesis as well as a finished yet unreleased game. Has anyone played any of these?
https://youtu.be/KH9k6BvmtXw
I have Battletoads for Megadrive. It looks better than the NES game obviously but it feels slightly less polished in its presentation. Plays great though. The difficulty feels toned down though that is no bad thing. I was able to get to level 7 on NES but that was quite a few years ago now!!!!
It says the "Asian version" on the box. Not sure if that is significant.
Hmm, I wonder if it being an Asian version makes the game different in any way.
I have played a few of the Genesis games. Double Dragon V is bad. Mostly played the Nintendo versions of these games. I really like Indy Heat. Did not know about the Sega Genesis release. That is cool.
Double Dragon V is bad no matter what system you play it on. I have the Jaguar version is just as bad.
There were 9 different John Madden Football Games released on the Sega Genesis. In this video, John takes a look at each of these releases, show the physical boxed copy of each, and rank each one. Do you remember playing any of these? What is your favorite?
https://youtu.be/P0bwKl9aS5A
Really good video. We did rent the Madden '93 Championship version. It is probably the best version for the Sega Genesis. Myself and another friend used to take turns buying Madden each year. I first bought "92, then he bought '93, then I bought '94 and he bought '95. The series had changed in my opinion and after that we moved on to different games.
I like Madden '94 the best. Still recall buying Madden '98 which had the two new expansion teams Panthers and Jaguars. It was cool for that reason. Kind of a fitting end to Madden on the Genesis.
Funny thing at the time. Folks were lining up to buy the Playstation version of Madden '98 and maybe even the Saturn version as well when it went on sale but the poor Genny had a full display with no waiting. Hahaha! Good times!
Takara published 6 Games for the Sega Genesis. In the video below, John Hancock looks at all 6 games and he ranks them. How would you rank these games? Have you played any of these?

John Hancock is back, this time ranking games published by Mindscape for the Genesis. Check it out...

Mindscape used to make good games for the Commodore C64 so surprising that these ports for the Genesis were so bad. I agree Outlander is really good.
Accolade published 11 Games for the Sega Genesis under the Ballistic label. Here is a video by John Hancock looking at these games...
https://youtu.be/qAnhWGbj1xY
LOL. I bought Mike Ditka Football new and it is an awful game. The box design was probably the only redeeming feature. Star Control was another title that I bought new. The game definitely has a lot to offer.
Data East published 10 Games for the Sega Genesis & Mega Drive. On this video John Hancock ranks these games. Enjoy!

Have ordered the Darius Extra cart for Megadrive. Will report back whenever it turns up. :)
I've always liked Darius games. Pretty cool they made a new Megadrive cart. Looking forward to your thoughts. :)
It's a cart release of the unreleased game that is on the MD mini. It was polished and completed by M2 who really know how to do ports properly. I didn't want to get a mini just for that game so this is a great opportunity to play it and add another nice cart to my MD collection. :)
I have Warrior of Rome II and used to own the first Warrior of Rome. I agree the first game is less polished. Never played any of the other titles.
I have Raiden Trad and I have really enjoyed it.
Here is another video by John Hancock, this time looking at the 11 games made by Sony Imagesoft for the system.

Have that too. Not sure how I came across it. It's cart only and I tend not to buy unboxed games. It's quite a nice port. When I switch my Megadrive region switch to JP I get a Japanese title screen. There are quite a few early cartridges like that. :)
Other MD shmups I have: TF3, Twin Hawk, Hellfire, Musha (repro), Space Invaders '91, Zero Wing. All very solid games.
I have some of those titles you listed. Has anyone seen any of these new games?

Hmm, I'm surprised no one has made comments on the last few videos, particularly with Tengen games. Hopefully this one inspires some posts. Here is a video by John looking at the 28 games Acclaim published for the Genesis/MD. This is another publisher with lots of games! Check it out...

U.S. Gold published 14 games for the Sega Genesis and Mega Drive, all of which are ranked by John on this video. I don't have any of these for my Genesis, so I can't say anything about any of the games myself. The Hulk one looks cool.
https://youtu.be/hclNGK_cqWA
Did you know Virgin Interactive released 22 games for the Genesis/MD? I didn't realize they had released so many! On this video, John Hancock ranks all of these games. I have Cannon Fodder but on the Jaguar, not on the Genesis. For the Genesis I do have Cuck Rock, Chuck Rock II, and Robocop vs Terminator for this list.

Electronic Arts published 18 games for the Sega Genesis in 1993 and some of its best. John Hancock ranks them on this video.
