Hi All

I am just trying to spread the word that Dizzy, the videogaming hero from the 80's could well be making a comeback! I am sure like me many of you on these forums played the Dizzy games when you were younger and, like me, have wondered if we would ever see our egg shaped hero in action again. Well, the Oliver Twins, the original creators of Dizzy, have set up a kickstarter project to try and get funding for a brand new Dizzy game, but it needs our help if it is to happen. Please head over to http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/the ... zy-returns and pledge what you can!

From what i've read, they want a large sum of money, in order to pay for 'Professional Voice Talent' i.e Actors...darling, just how much is being spent on game design etc? this is after all an egg with boxing gloves we're talking about.

Kickstarter:A fantastic concept in principle, but when it starts to snowball like it currently is, i start to wonder if the money is going to be spent where it's needed most.

Yeah, agreed, and with the costs of games creation these days, and advertising costs, this could be spend quite quickly, I think they should hire a Russian developer to do it, some of the work there doing is pretty impressive and up there with some of the best of them.. Would save them a good few quid in process, but then again they could of thought of this already..

Although it's great they are doing all these remakes, I'm beginning to really tire of all these kick-starter projects, at present something like 20 retro game related projects going on, they can't all be covered, it's really is over kill IMO.

1st Kickstarter project i heard of i seem to recal was Wasteland, reboot of the classic C64 game, fantastic idea, just the sort of thing i could dream of.

But it soon turned into the mother of all band wagons and folks jumping on it, left, right and centre.

And game designers, IF your spending so much time and effort trying to get professional Voice Actors on board, maybe you oughta return to the drawing board and re-focus on things that got us into games like Dizzy in the 1st place.Your creating a GAME, right? not an animated feature based on the games.

NEWS UPDATE:

Oliver Twins admitted defeat on this:

7 days left, only £24,605 raised by 774 backers, thus leaving them over £325,000 shy of the target point of £350,000.

Maybe they should have had a much smaller scale game in mind, rather than banging on about paying for professional voice actors etc?.

I think they're to be lauded for having had the ambition to reach high. Now that insufficient interest in the proposal has been shown it seems, from the wording of their statement, that they'll be scaling things back. Makes perfect sense.

To be honest, I find it rather tiresome seeing the ranting of internet keyboard warriors feeling the need to have their say like their opinion actually matters.

Not sure WHO the ranting/Keyboard warriors comment is aimed at here...

IF it's myself, well, i'll happily stand by ANY comments i make, espically regarding Kickstarter budgets for new Dizzy game.

Aiming high is a fantastic thing, when it's done to create THE best possible game for the player, still amazes me to see things like Starglider 2, Midwinter 1+2, Hunter etc on primitive hardware like the ST, or Elite on the BBC micro.

But when developers these days feel a large part of the focus has to go on getting professional voice talent on board, i honestly wonder if they would'nt be better off looking into making non-interactive affairs, like a Dizzy mini-series or something.

Also, IF any developer is going to openly ask the gaming money to fund thier next project, then the very people they are approaching, should be entitled to speaking thier mind.If they've an ounce of sense, developer will look on it as judging the mood of the market place.

Releasing a product at the wrong time or on the wrong format, can be very costly indeed, Sega learnt that, as, i'd hope, are Sony currently.

Slight tangent, but on subject of developers listening to keyboard warriors:

Huge fan of the Burnout series (currently playing Revenge on 360), now when it was annouced that the Crash Time mode was getting it's own release as a mini-game, i could'nt be happier. It's 1 of the most enjoyable aspects of the series and seemed ideal as a PS mini, iOS+XBLA game.Cheap, huge barrel of fun etc.

What 'we' got was far, far from what i'd hoped for (and indeed lot of my friends etc) so, NO sale for us and we were/still are very vocal about it, as indeed we were about Burnout:Paradise.

I've bought Burnout 1-3 on mix of formats, started with PS2, then Xbox, Revenge on Xbox+360, plus Paradise on PS3 (+DLC), Dominator+Legends on PSP, so i'd hope the developers do feel my opinion had some value and would welcome my (humble) thoughts on what i'd like to see from future instalments.

Not sure WHO the ranting/Keyboard warriors comment is aimed at here...

My comment was in no way aimed at anyone here. It was a general comment in reference to certain other sites on the internet. I perhaps should have made that clearer!

They were far too greedy with this and it serves them right that it failed so miserably. A franchise like Dizzy shouldn't even need a Kickstarter given how popular it's been over the years and how much money it has made the developers.

They should come back with a Spectrum style Dizzy game, obviously with upgraded graphics and sound, that doesn't require our funding and can just be downloaded from Xbox Live, PSN or whatever. That is what the fans want, not getting their pockets raped for dodgy voice actors.

No worries DC...just put it down to me having a dodgy day.

Work ring up, wanting me in on 1st day of an Xmas shutdown they planned....
Go to pick up my car from the garage, had new pads fitted, which they noticed needed replacing last week when they had it for the MOT, they only now notice it needs new discs as well as pads, so cars got to go back in next week, have brakes stripped (again) to have new discs fitted...more labour charges.

Did wonder at the keyboard warrior/opinion not mattering part of your post, reminded me of Gamestm/RG forum eedback threads where anything other than glowing praise is jumped on.

🙂
