Up until now most of my reviews have been of some great homebrew games. So I am changing things up and reviewing a classic Amiga title. Cannon Fodder is an action, strategy game in which the player takes control of a squad of up to five little soldiers on a battlefield.
When you start the game you are armed with only machine guns that you use to take out enemy squads in order to clear a level. Your infantry fire power is far superior to the enemy for the first few missions, which means you can take out the opposition with a single round. While this sounds easy be aware that your troops are not able to take much more and with each mission that passes, the enemy becomes smarter with better fire power, so your tactics need to be spot on in order to defeat them. Soldiers on foot are not the only thing you need worry about in Cannon Fodder.
You will find the enemy will start to use vehicles like tanks, helicopters and jeeps. As you would expect your machine guns will be no match for these, so you will need to pick up secondary weapons to help take out the heavy duty hardware. Luckily you can find grenades and rockets even so ammo is rare, so make each shot count. Each of your squad members had cool names like Jop and Jools, so you feel a loss when they die. For hours of fun play this and remember War has never been so much fun.
