Gary Bracey is widely regarded as having helped turn around the fortunes of Ocean Software. The developer and publisher flourished under his leadership, and a number of key movie licences and software deals ensured that the Manchester-based developer was a force to be reckoned with during the 8 and 16-bit period.

Here are a selection of question for the gentleman himself

1)What can he tell us about Ocean's planned Atari Jaguar Games:Toki Goes Apeshit? Or even how far along did coding get, what aspects of Jaguar hardware would they of used?. Also did Ocean have any 'faith' in Atari's abilty to market the Jaguar properly?

2)How did Ocean view the Atari 8 Bit range? 400/800/XL/XE and any plans for 7800 or XEGS support?. Also was work ever started on A8 Frankie Goes To Hollywood and D.T.Decathlon?.

3)What can he remember about support for the Konix Multi-System? would 'Run The Gauntlet' of been a straight port or would it of used the custom control options the hardware offered, let alone the power chair?

4)Any Atari Lynx or Panther games ever in development?

5)What happened to Amiga Combat School, The watchmen etc?

6)Do you know if work ever started on CD32 version of Inferno (D.I.D)? and were rumours of it coming to Sega Saturn anything more than just speculation?.I always thought it'd be an ideal Jag CD game, never any
plans there either?.

7)Work was i believe completed on the Sega Megadrive version of Waterworld, but game was never released. Can you remember why not?.Also were you ever approached by Atari to do a version for the atari Jaguar?

:)

Some more additional questions for Gary

10) Was there ever any truth to claim Ocean and Zzap64 had a deal going that if they reviewed the very smart looking, but very uncomplete version of Operation Thunderbolt on the C64 and awarded it a good score, they'd get exclusive access to future Ocean games?.We ended up with a very different and rushed to completion version, but i wonder how many people bought the game based on Zzap's review?.

11) Ocean supported the C64GS and Amstrad GX4000, had things been very different, did you have further enhanced cart games planned and did work ever start on C64GS Plotting and Puzznic?

12) Ocean promised Amiga owner a 'beefed-up' version of Robocop over the ST version, full-screen, more samples etc, yet an ST port was what they got. What happened?

13) Ocean signed the likes of Robocop and Nightbreed before films themselves were even complete, how much early access to film scripts etc did you get? and how did you choose which to sign?.

14) You had a Daimler Ferret Scout Car on display at the PC Show to Promote Operation Wolf (Uber Cool move), what would you say was Ocean finest moment in terms of game promotion at trade shows?.

That's your lot :)

Just a few questions here:

1. Ocean is well known for its many licensed titles, including games based on well established franchises.  How free was the team at Ocean when it came to development of games based on franchises such as Robocop, Jurassic Park, Batman, and The Adams Family?

2.  Various titles were available across multiple platforms.  Some of these games are similar to each other while others differ.  Was this out of necessity due to hardware differences or was this planned beforehand in this manner?

3.  Ocean Software was responsible for releasing many games based on movies and TV shows.  How did the company start in this (very successful) path?

Going to the final frontier, gaming...

If its not too late;

Did Commodore over promise the developers before the AA chipset came out, its just because looking back games like T.F.X and Inferno were never going to be playable on 68020 CPU's in the A1200/CD32, did Ocean ever think they were possible to complete, and did the Akiko chip in the CD32 help gain a few more FPS?
