Well here it is folks the first Retro Video Gamer interview is complete.
Enjoy
ZapiyDo you ever see Team 17 releasing any other games from your back? Project X for example.
Team 17The walls of the studio are adorned with framed-copies of every Team17 release ever - there’s one awesome history around the place. Some are long forgotten while others are remembered fondly. We are often asked about bringing back some of our classic titles, Project X and Superfrog are definitely favourites. While there are no old games in development at the moment it isn’t something that’s been ruled out completely.
The LairdYou developed Worms for the Atari Jaguar and had a number of other games listed for release on the console including Rollcage and Wytchwood. Were these other projects ever started and if so are there any prototypes left lying around?
Team 17Hang on, I’ll have a look under my desk... Nope, sorry. You’d be hard pressed to find anything relating to these ancient projects. We probably haven’t even got the hardware anymore.
AmigaJayWhat was your best selling Amiga game not including Worms?
Team 17Strangely enough, Worms wasn’t Team17’s best selling Amiga title. That accolade probably goes to Alien Breed Special Edition which was release right at the height of the Amiga’s popularity. Worms came along later as the Amiga was on the wane. It has, however, appeared on nearly every platform you can think of - that’s stamina for you.
Deaddoll666What's next for Worms?
Team 17Worms will always be part of Team17. There are always Worms projects in development, I can think of four projects that are being worked on right now. No clues to what they are I’m afraid but I’d recommend people keep a keen eye out on March 30th for a major Worms announcement.
AmigaJayHave Sony contacted you about porting your sterling work on PSP Lemmings to the Playstation Vita, what with its touch screen and camera giving more gameplay possibilities?
Team 17As far as I know the PSP version does work on the Vita but without using any of the hardware’s special features. Sony hasn’t approached Team17 to create a bespoke version for the Vita, they own the IP so could ask any developer to do the work. It could be being worked on right now, who knows?
Deaddoll666If you could have any of your games turned into a movie. Which one and why?
Team 17Alien Breed - ah, maybe not... Worms wouldn’t work that’s for sure, could you imagine how convoluted the narrative would be? No, I think our games are best kept as games.
zapiyWhat's the future hold for Team 17. Any new ip's that your willing to share?
Team 17The future’s bright. There’s a great mix of old know-how and youthful enthusiasm in the studio. I can spill the beans on new IPs. But you can bank of Team17 looking to new tech, platforms and the future. It’s going to be exciting that’s for sure.
The LairdWhat's your favourite machine you have ever worked on and why?
Team 17I’ve liked them all, some more than others I suppose. It’s a hard question to qualify really, I guess the PC would have to be up there for longevity and resilience.
AmigaJayAny plans to bring the Alien Breed series to any other platforms i.e Android, IOS, Vita, 3DS?
Team 17Yes. Can’t really say much more than that.
AmigaJayHow many of the original (17-Bit/Team 17) team are left?
Team 17One that’s been here since day one and she now owns the company. They are development staff that have been here since Worms 2 too. We’re aiming for a good mixture of youth and experience. I suppose I can elude to a big staff-based announcement soon but that’s about as good as it gets.
