Let's Compare Carnival
« on: May 27, 2014, 04:29:25 AM »
Carnival is a fixed shooter arcade game created by Sega in 1980 that has the distinction of being the first video game with a bonus round.  The goal of the game is to shoot at targets, while carefully avoiding running out of bullets. Here is a video looking at a few home versions of the game...

I am a huge fan of Carnival, always loved this game  :45:

The Intellivision version looks pretty decent, somewhere between the 2600 and Coleco as you would expect.

The ColecoVision version is really the best in the group.  The Intellivision version plays good but I find the fact that that music gets interrupted by the shots annoying.  I wonder why that was programmed that way.

Yeah I find that strange too, it's something that bugs me in games.

And it can't be a capabilities thing.  The Inty has enough sound channels to handle sound effects and music at the same time. I wonder if the issue is related to the EXEC.
