Stampede is a left-to-right side-scroller with an overhead, third-person view. It was published by Activision in 1981 for the Atari 2600 VCS with a  Mattel Intellivision version following the year after. It was never released for the Atari 8-bit computers though, until now that is!

An Activision catalog from 1982 advertised Stampede in the following way:
"Ready for a little round up? With Stampede by Activision, you'll have to ride fast and rope even faster. Those little dogies seem to be everywhere, and they're all worth points. But, be careful! Your ol' horse can get a little edgy, especially when you take your eyes off the trail. So, head out West for hours of fun with Stampede!"

Originally programmed by Activision co-founder Bob Whitehead, this Atari 8-bit version was programmed by Avery Lee and and has since been released for free to play on real hardware via a flash device or your favourite emulator. The game remains incredibly faithful to the Atari 2600 original and is a huge amount of fun to play!

Nice! It would be cool to see a Commodore 64 release.
