I forgot we had this thread...

I have been hammering scrolling fighters, as many will know from RG. The ones getting the most time lately are Streets of Rage 2, Return of Double Dragon and Turtles in Time.

Return of Double Dragon, despite being visually poor is one of the best examples of the genre. It feels so kinetic at times with the blocking/guarding mechanic in place.

In the coming weeks I will be playing Streets of Rage remake and King of Dragons when I have time. So much to choose from!

It really is superb. It's 30fps, like the first Streets of Rage so it lacks the smoothness of other games but once you power through that it's ace. Uses 5 of the 6 buttons which really allows for a lot of move. There are around 30 techniques in total with is a hell of a lot for a game of this type, especially when you consider there are only 2 identical characters to control. You have to use them all too.

It reminds me a lot of the first SOR in many ways. I like the way they went for small sprites too allow more enemies on screen, makes it better than the SNES version of Final Fight for me straight away. Has some really good music too.

Some of my best gaming memories are playing NES TMNT with my son. Nothing better than beating up baddies with the help of a co-op turtle friend.

Very good indeed! Great collection of games, lots of options, trophies, unlockables and very faithful to the original. You can also use the Pro Controllers or Game Cube controllers with it too, which is even better!

Slightly off-topic, but the Wii is the best platform for SNK Classics Vol. 1. The PS2 and PSP versions have some slowdown in the later release games. (Shock Troopers/Metal Slug)

Yesterday my brother and I started playing our way through the Neo Geo collection on the Wii and came across Sengoku, which I had never played before. The game is absolutely brilliant and combines elements from lots of other fighting games to great effect. Both the graphics and especially the sound are top notch and the ability to change into other characters, and even a dog, for a limited time is fantastic. We played it all the way through and loved every minute of it, right up there with my favourite Neo Geo games:

Interesting to see that it got ported to the SNES and Mega CD too. I watched the videos and saw that the Mega CD version is very faithful while the SNES version almost seems like a completely different game! It looks and sounds really bad too, which doesn't help it much.

There are two sequels to Sengoku on the Neo Geo. Sengoku 2 has similar gameplay to the first game but Sengoku 3 is very different. All three are fun but 2 is probably my favorite of the series.
