Attack Of The Clones: Pac-Man
« on: January 18, 2013, 15:13:34 PM »
Time for me to bring back another one of my ongoing series, Attack Of The Clones!

But this time, rather than list a load of clones for different machines like I did with Sonic, we are going to make this interactive for you all!

So the question is what are your favourite Pac-Man clones over the years?

I bought this game in a charity shop with a load of others just after first getting my Spectrum, I have no idea what the other games were - this is the only one that sticks in my memory. It was the only Pac-Man type game I had for the Speccy and used to play it loads, in all truth it's a pretty good effort too.

It was actually made to work with 16k Spectrums and boasted "3D graphics" on the cover as you can see!

Oh Shit, for the MSX. Back in the day when game developers didn't give a shit. Well, technically, they DID give a shit, several, actually, but... bah, you know what I mean. Apparently there's also a version called "Oh No", but why would you want to play that?

Not sure if this qualifies as a Pac-Man-clone. I mean it is one, but not as close as the others...

Sinbad Mystery on the Sega SG-1000 is nice.

Back in the day I spent a lot of time playing....

Snapper on the Acorn Electron (apparently the BBC version actually looks like Pac-Man).

Gobman on the PC (Best name for a Pac-Man clone ever)

CD-Man on the PC (My dad spent loads of time playing this)

Thanks Vyo! Never knew about CD-Man. I really like the 2 and a half mazes.

This was another Pac-Man rip-off I liked on the Speccy: Pepsi Mad Mix

When this thread was started, I think we focused primarily on direct clones of Pac-Man.  But how about games that were developed to compete with Pac-Man and are clones that introduce different elements to the gameplay?  One of my favorites is Lady Bug!

Check out Thief. Nothing special when it comes to gameplay, it's just a Pac-Man clone with a particularly big maze. But this is... probably one of the first games to have actual voice acting, played through a cassete tape in a machine. Pretty cool, honestly.

That's an interesting take on the Pac-Man concept.  Looks fun!
