Part 3: Consoles - Level 1 Music (Moot)

Space Harrier is one of the most iconic arcade games Sega produced and the soundtrack remains a big favourite among chiptune fans. The famous Moot music (from level 1) still sounds wonderful to this day and arguably the best tune of the lot. Space Harrier got a great showing across many home formats so we had to split it into 3 parts making this battle the biggest yet! In this this third installment we look at the home console versions.[/align:dhcdil75]

There are some great versions here but I have to go with the wonderful Sega Master System PSG version. Such a shame that western players didn't get this version of the SMS and instead got music sounding like that crappy Game Gear version.

Greyfox

Although GBA version has all the beats and re-sampled sounds of the Arcade Original..it was gonna be my number one choice, but for sheer console sound chip replay it has to be the PC Engine version..it's pretty much arcade perfect and done a brilliant job of re-creating the original Space Harrier score. :)

TrekMD

Sega Master System for me but I was indeed impressed with the PC engine.  :)

Going to the final frontier, gaming...

Shadowrunner

No love for the 32X version?
That's the only version I have ever played with the exception of the Sega compilations on modern consoles so my opinion could be a little biased  ;)

I never include 32-bit systems usually because they have CD quality music so its a bit unfair on the really retro systems.

Yeah you have a point there.
Guess I don't really think of the 32X as 32 bit. Yes I realize its in the name LOL

Hard to reply. I play the 32X version the most. Since the 32X came out people have put the system down.

Then Laird pays it a compliment. At least I took it that way. Makes my head hurt to think now. 32X good or 32X bad for sounding to good?

Voted TurboGrafx.
