Retro News & Chat / Master System help anyone?
December 20, 2015, 14:23:38 PM
I have bought a non working Master System which is supposedly due to a BIOS fault. Looking around the net I have yet to find a replacement other than one which requires an eprom programmer and wasn't very clear on what was needed to fit it in.
Any clever people here know anything about MS BIOS replacement?

I recently retrieved my Acorn Electron from the garage for some use. I don't have much software, although I have bought more on EBay recently. I also did the simple composite colour mod for better video signal and colour from the already present composite plug. More at http://douglastitchmarsh.com/computing- ... an-airing/ and the composite mod is also on my blog there.

Marketplace / Selling an Amiga A600 for a friend
September 29, 2013, 16:25:51 PM
Hi all,
hoping I can help out a friend in need and get a good home for an Amiga A600. It's all working as I've just tested it. It's in great condition too except for a missing floppy eject button (which may be in the box). There are around 20 boxed games in very good condition and a couple of joysticks / mouse and other add ons too.

This is just to see if there's any interest here, I will post some pictures etc. in a while. Will be looking for sensible offers bearing in mind bundles on Ebay are going for £60 - £120 and this has other stuff besides the Amiga and a few games, including manuals and more to be listed as I open some boxes.

PM me or post below if interested or it will be listed on Ebay sometime soon.  :26:

Retro News & Chat / Fixing an Atari XEGS
September 05, 2013, 21:05:33 PM
Anyone any tips on fixing an Atari XEGS with a red screen display?
Took a punt on it on Ebay on a whim. It was listed as for spares as no plug on mains power supply, but with a plug on it still doesn't work.
If it doesn't get fixed it will become a case for a Raspberry Pi or Mini ITX board

I was just told about this gaming ebooks bundle at http://storybundle.com/ where you set the price you want to pay (min $3 US). The bundle currently shown may interest some of us here and the bonus you get if you pay $10+ is quite interesting.

Retro News & Chat / Tough old consoles but...
April 14, 2013, 15:02:52 PM
If you've read any of my other posts then you'll know that most of my retro gaming stuff has been left out in the garage getting very damp for 9 years. You'll also have read that most of it has been cleaned up and tested and worked OK. Today it was the one I've been dreading trying for the almost certainty of it being FUBAR.

So I cleaned up the 3DO, the joypad port and the connector on the lead were both badly corroded and I could see corrosion on other connectors at the back of the 3DO. Still I battled on and cleaned them up. Eventually I had to plug it in. And turn it on. It lit up a power light and all the smoke stayed inside the electronic bits inside (for the uninitiated all electronic parts are filled with smoke which makes them work, if the smoke escapes then, to coin a phrase, it's game over). I put in the only game I have which is Rebel assault, and lo and behold it made a lot of noise in the disc drive but the game start screen came up.

I got the game up to starting so some buttons on the pad are working, but herein is the problem, I have no "right" on the joypad direction pad. So does anyone know anything about these pads or will I be pioneering stripping it for RVG?

Sega Chat / Sega Megadrive Menacer
April 07, 2013, 09:34:17 AM
Yes I'm going to Google it but thought I'd throw it in here too...
While sorting the stuff in my garage yesterday I found a Sega light gun rifle (Menacer?) but I have nothing to plug in the console. I'm assuming it needs a receiver, and also specific games. So my question is what games should I get if I find a receiver and where to find the receiver?

Hi all, if anyone is interested I have a Commodore Amiga A500 which I would prefer to trade for something(s) I would like but would sell for a reasonable offer. It's quite yellowed on the casing but does boot up and work. I will supply with genuine Commodore mouse (untested) and a power supply (untested and european style 2 pin plug)
This picture makes it look a lot better than it really is as the white in this pic is yellow in real life and the yellow is very deeply yellow, don't want to deceive anyone into thinking it isn't too bad  :4:

My Game Gear won't power up on the DC socket, I was trying the Megadrive power supply which seems to be generally touted as the right one to use for it. Anyone know anything about the insides of the GG to give me some strip and repair tips?

Homebrew Chat / Retro gaming on Raspberry Pi
March 30, 2013, 21:42:09 PM
Here's a SD card image made for the turning the Pi into an emulation machine.
http://chameleon.enging.com/
It's called Chameleon and has a front end to make emulating old computers and systems easy on the Pi. So far it has support for MAME, ZX 81 and Spectrum, Commodore64 and Vic20, Atari 2600 and some others listed on the site. I will be trying it out this weekend so I can report back on it.

Retro News & Chat / Help CD32 problems
March 25, 2013, 11:44:53 AM
Hope someone can give a pointer or two for this. My CD32 works fine for a while, and no problems with Pinball Illusions etc. But if I try and play Zool it will play for a few minutes and then stop spinning the cd and go to a black screen.
Any ideas anyone?

Retro News & Chat / Atari VCS help needed
February 02, 2013, 14:13:14 PM
The story is that I bought a non working Atari VCS six switch woody to replace the case on my working one which was cracked. Now I can't find the working VCS to transplant the good stuff. So I bought a switch for the non working one as it was missing (actually found it inside the Atari but the metal shaft was broken off). Having soldered in the switch and plugged everything in, and using a cart which works in another Atari system all I get is a black screen.
I pulled out the boards and checked for obvious blown components, broken traces etc. but there's nothing staring me in the face. So does anybody have any idea for fault finding the system?

Homebrew Chat / Spectrum Basic for Raspberry Pi?
November 12, 2012, 20:55:37 PM
I just read about the SpecBas programs which is a kind of update / remake of the Spectrum basic for many computers including the Raspberry Pi.
Only shame seems to be you need to run Linux on your Pi and then do the Linux stuff to load it.

Hello all, going through some boxes today and I found lots of random bits including a SNES Nintendo Scope Receiver (model no.SNSP-014) if anybody needs one (no Nintendo Scope just the receiver). I'm not looking for money but a trade would be nice, or sent for postage costs only to any regulars on this site.

General Retro Chat / Anyone know what this is?
November 03, 2012, 16:53:37 PM
I think this is for a Commodore 64, I got it from a friend of mine who had it in his loft many years ago now. It says "Xyllyx" and "CBM 64 Comms Pack".
I'm guessing from that it is a communications device of some sort.
Second question is does anyone want it?

Any of you guys know any emulators for Windows which don't need DirectX (particularly NES ones). Tried a few so far and all needed DirectX
