Many of you will have seen the excellent Touchdown Challenge for the Atari 2600 VCS by homebrew coder Atarius Maximus. Well now he has programmed an Atari ProSystem version of the game using the new 7800 basic, his first game for the classic system. This title was used as a chance for him to learn the system and many improvements have been made on the game since the original version was released.

The idea of the game is simply to run up the football field, if you get to the top you score 7 points, if you touch an opposing player you're tackled and the game pauses and then you press fire to reset. There are 15 different patterns for the opposing players, simple sound effects, animated sprites and high scores. The game isn't 100% finished yet but has been left for now, the game may be worked on more in the future.

The game can be can be downloaded for free to use with emulators and real hardware via a flash cartridge. Atarius Maximus has also made the source code and other files available for others to look at to help with their own 7800 Basic projects. You can read more about the development of this game over in the thread (//http) on Atari Age. We all hope this game is worked on more with a 2-player mode added and released properly on a cartridge, it sure is a lot of fun, even in its current form!
